Just received my second letter regarding the steering column upper shaft. Parts are now available, but it must go to the dealer for inspection first to determine if parts are needed. If so, they will then order the parts. My truck is going in on Thursday.............so we will see what they say.

So I got the same recall on My 2020 F250. Called the dealer and they want to keep the truck while they take pictures of the column and send to Ford for approval at which time they will send the part out. The last time I had my truck in to fix the 10 speed Trans it took almost two months, + before I did that they had to reprogram it and I had to drive it 5000 miles. They don't provide something to drive during that time. I did end up getting a whole new transmission.
I don't know how much the shaft costs, but I may end-up buying it myself and installing it.
Good Luck getting Ford to do it Quickly.
According to the recall there were a few shafts made that only got one dimple in the shaft to keep it from coming apart.
My story is similar. Transmission went out (it was outside the recall) but was replaced with a new one but Ford did provide me with a rental. Never had to go back in for programming. Yeah agreed, there aren't keeping it.

What exactly does that mean, only got one dimple in the shaft? Is the steering shaft part the full length of the steering column, or just a small part at the base of the column?
Any idea what the part number was (was it listed on any kind of receipt for the repair)?
Well, my truck built in August 2020 did not have an issue with the steering column. The tech who dropped it off did not know exactly how they checked it and nothing on the paperwork except it passed inspection.
I took my 2020 F-250 in for the recall today. My shaft failed inspection and requires replacement. The part is on back order with no ETA. I have purchased my last Ford. Ford will not let dealers stock the replacement shaft. It can only be ordered using the VIN. Quality is non-existent. They have lost their way.

I understand your frustration but the grass isn't always greener. Other brands also have trucks sitting waiting on parts.
It seems as though almost all new recalls lately require what Ford calls SSSC approval. It is an inconvenience to the tech, advisor and the customer as it requires an inspection first, proof of failure with specific photo requirements, an authorization code when they get around to looking at it, then a whole new SSSC case to get parts sent. Then the parts are shipped outside normal shipping channels so there is no tracking and they don't come in with the info the parts department is used to looking for, so parts usually has no idea who the parts belong to.
And the expectation is for the tech to take time to fill out these cases, upload the documentation and make the requests. Sometimes for an extra 0.2, most times for nothing
Mine was done yesterday. Paperwork says they did measurement and passed at 87.6MM. Staking not present. Reinstalled and replaced one-time use hardware. Mine was built August 2020.
Two bolts - W720796 S439, W714409 S439. As written on the receipt.
So, that's it? The problem all along was just substandard fasteners, prone to breaking? Sheesh... Seems like they should forget about the damn "inspection" and simply replace them on all recalled trucks. SMFH
It was not substandard bolts. It was everything that was mentioned here. The bolts were replaced according to the recall. They are one time use bolts. Whether the shaft was bad or not they need replacing.
Be aware if your shaft is found to be defective during the inspection, replacements are on back order. As of today my dealer has no ETA from Ford. Just be aware of this when you take your truck in for the recall. Hopefully the parts are available soon.
