Angry Recall 24S78 Powertrain Control Module Software Update

Can anyone help me understand whats going with this recall? I have searched the threads and couldn't find anything.
I have a 4WD 2020 F-350 Lariat with the 6.7 diesel engine. In January of 2025 Ford issued a recall due to possible "bio diesel" contamination of certain trucks built in early 2020. The engine could loose power if not repaired.

Ford was working on a "software" update but as of Jan 2026, there isn't any fix available. I can not get a straight answer from Ford or my Ford dealer where I purchased the truck. I believe this is an issue with fuel pump failure and the "software" fix is a smoke screen. We use our truck to tow a 15K pound 5th wheel across country. I am very concern about potential failure while traveling.

Any specific input is appreciated.

I have a similar issue with recall #25S94 which was issued in September of 2025 for a steering column upper shaft failure for which there is no current fix.

Thank you

There are a few forum threads addressing this, but using the forum search isn't very helpful sometimes. I typically perform forum searches using a separate browser search engine, like this:

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=fuel+recal...ord-trucks.com

The above search finds at least a half-dozen thread results. You should be able to find all the info you need in those threads, with luck.

I just got a letter saying the fix is available. Anyone know what the specific changes are to the programming?

Is this really a fix or a early warning system to inform the driver that their CP4.2 pump is failing so get it to a shop asap.

Looked into this and found an article from Diesel Army. Interesting stuff to be sure...

Ford Recalls 6.7-liter Power Stroke Trucks Over CP4 Issues :

In January of 2025, Ford finally issued a recall for 295,449 Power Stroke equipped trucks built between 2020 and 2022. Sadly, the fix isn’t what any of us would like to see. Ford dealers will update the powertrain control module software free of charge, saying the updates to the fuel system cooling strategy would alleviate the situation.

From the Ford Authority article that states:

Ford Motor Company is recalling select diesel-powered 2020-2022 Ford F-Series models due to an issue with fuel pump failures.

The defect: in affected vehicles, biodiesel deposits may form on the pump drivetrain roller components, which could lead to failure of the high pressure fuel pump.

The hazards: high pressure fuel pump failures can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.

Yeah, I'd like to find out just what they're changing in the PCM before I decide whether I want to have this done or not. If I do, then I'll have to re-enable manual regens again using forscan because they'll overwrite that.

I would not know about any of that with my dinosaur of a truck... being able to turn to off auto regen that is.

Yeah, well, it's a slight improvement. Would prefer to not have to bother with the emissions nonsense at all.

If I had a dinosaur, I'd consider putting it on a weight loss program. The problem with trucks that have lost weight is re-sale. Dealers can't/won't touch them.

Oh it's most certainly an improvement... I don't mind the emissions because I am having zero issues but I'll never say never about deleting... and I understand when people do if they're having emissions issues that do not end.

That said, time will tell. If money was not an issue, I'd have mine rebuilt or buy an engine from Dave's Center with a set of SOA pistons. There is a dinosaur on the SOA website, and the owner saw an improvement in fuel mileage and an increase in regen intervals. DEF really is not a big deal to me and not having to smell the irritating odor of modern-day fuel that was burned being exhausted is not a bad thing IMO. But I could be wrong...

Agree with that. I am amazed at how clean the tailpipe emissions are. No smell at all. It comes with a cost though. Worse fuel economy and shortened oil change intervals, and higher maintenance costs. All so that some people can feel better about themselves.

Won't let them touch mine. Not really sure why I haven't deleted yet. After my first recall which came very soon after purchasing I decided they'd probably never get to touch my pickup again. I had the recall where they said come on in and we will give you a new door sticker. We overstated your payload...

I was absolutely infuriated. The entire reason I decided to take this truck home was when I opened the door looked at the sticker and saw a ginormous payload amount (for a SRW). Decided I would stop towing over my limits and be all perfectly legal and right with the world. Then come to find out nope! The payload change would put me right back to where I was. Told them to take the truck back and make it right. Back and forth and they wouldn't do anything for me. So I was right back to where I was with my old modified 5.9LCummins. Plenty of power, frame, braking, cooling, and stability, but now not enough payload. So pissed. I'm kinda reliving it right now. So I said the hell with it and I'll just get an F-450. Dealer was going to do me right on trade. Then the truck went way way over its projected build date. So I just kept what I got. I do love this pickup but man that was a rough start. Now they can kass my iss where the sun don't shine and take their recalls and blow 'em out their nether regions. I just try to keep an eye on any that are dangerous and fix them myself. Get extra pissed all over again in situations where they won't exactly say what the problem and fix is.

I'm gonna go cool off now! Ain't my trucks fault that thing has been pretty good. I just don't like how FOMOCO jerked me around.
