Well iam new to the site. I have a 69 f700, actually it’s peashooters old truck. I have a question. I want to change the 2 speed rear end to a newer one . I don’t like that just to do 50 mph it has to be over 3000 rpm. Iam not looking for speed , I just don’t want to feel like iam killing the motor . Also I was thinking since you can’t get brake drums for them , I could get one that u can.
Availability of brake drums isn't an issue if you don't need one. IOW, don't let the brake shoes get worn to the rivets and the drums last longer than the truck. Even then, used ones can be found, though not cheap.
I have no advice about a newer replacement rear axle, though it's been brought up in several threads.
What gear ratios do you have now? I will have the axles that are in my 68 n700 available for sale in the near future if you might be interested in them, let us know your stock ratios and ill find what mine are and maybe it will be a match for you.
That 6.50:1 is about right for most gas engines of that era with the 20" wheels they came with. My '73 has 6.17 high, my trans is direct 5th, and the engine sounds happy (though noisy) at 65.
Have another ? My 69 ford f700 trying to find new clutch , it has 4 speed transmission . I believe it’s original new process 435 . My old clutch doesn’t have any numbers on it , does anyone know what clutch iam looking for.
Which engine?
Assuming a 330 M/D, 330 H/D, 361, or 391 . . . and that's it's still somewhat original at 55 years old . . .
7548 Clutch release bearing D1TZ-7548-B, $38-60 via eBay
7600 Pilot bearing C4TZ-7600-C, as cheap as $15 for NOS via eBay
Further assuming a 13" clutch (11" & 12" clutches were offered for various gas engines) . . .
7550 Disc. Assy. C5TZ-7550-H
7563 Pressure plate C6TZ-7563-C
But you're probably not going to buy Ford parts. See this thread for more info on 13" clutch kits.
Just wondering if this is the right shifter. It should have pins in the side to hold the ball in , but I don’t see them. Mine has a big spring on the underneath which I don’t see any where.
A clear picture of your truck's Warranty Plate would be very helpful. It's typically located on the driver's door, below the latch.
That doesn't look like an NP435 top cover to me; it has only four bolts to affix it to the trans. A 4-bolt shift tower is used on the C-series adapter for the NP435, but it also doesn't look like that.
Yes, it looks like yours is missing the coil spring and seat. Let's hope the seat isn't in the bottom of the transmission. Without the transmission tag info (right upper side of a Clark 280), it could be C6TZ-7227-D or C8TZ-7227-A or something else.
I've merged your older threads about the rear end and clutch to this one about the shifter; it's much easier to answer questions about your truck when the info is in one place.
