BD exhaust manifolds

Hey folks,

Has anyone done their own exhaust manifold replacement? shop calls for 10 hrs so it sounds semi intense. I would prefer to do the service myself and I wanted to see if any of you have done it and if it really is painful to do. I will be replacing them with BD Diesel manifolds.

The truck does have a leak on the driver side and it's annoying! Any advice from those that have done it would be much appreciated, thanks!

BD lists the estimated install time at 9 hours, so the 10 hour shop estimate isn’t out of line.

I would say if your comfortable replacing the turbo the manifolds won't be much more work. It is hard to give advice about things like this as everyone's experience and aptitude is different, sometimes vastly.

I have replaced the manifolds on my 2011 6.7. I am a seasoned mechanic. Give yourself at least 10 hours. Make sure you get a new turbo coolant hose, fitting, gasket and a couple exhaust manifold studs just in case. Also, make sure to drain the coolant system, when you remove the turbo it will dump the coolant into the oil pan. Don't ask how I know. LOL

I may just have the shop do it, I am an experience mechanic but the tight places with my bad back will be a painful few days after. thanks for the advice.
