Tailgate for mid '60's F-Series? ... Pics

My neighbor has had this sitting in his garage for... "a while"... and I offered to help him figure out what year and model this puppy belongs to and possibly find an interested party. I'm guessing mid '60's?

Not certain how best to describe the color... at first glance it appears Orange... but on closer inspection I guess it's really more "light brownish". Was this a factory color?
It's in pretty good condition with only minor rust spots and some "signs of use" scratches... but best of all... it's ding free! The handle and latch mechanism works smoothly and solidly. Handle swings outward sideways from L to R.

Any insights would be helpful... and if you know of anyone who might be interested...

Very nice looking tailgate, don't see many in that good of shape. It is for the 1967-72 Bumpside Ford F series trucks.

Agreed.

Two things to look for:
* "Eyeball" along the top edge and make sure it's straight. A lot of the ones I've seen were damaged, and are bent outwards.
* Look for rust along the bottom edge/sheetmetal.

If both of these check out, that's a really nice piece!

That is the correct gate for 67-72's but it also is the service replacement gate for 64-66 style sides. Ford obsoleted the 64-66 gate in 67. Only difference is the style of the lettering and the raised part around the letters.

And the pressed out (bump) detail near the top is slightly different on original 64/66 gates. It gradually tapers back in to the main tailgate panel where the 67/72 the detail is pronounced and ends abruptly.

This picture I stole off of EBAY shows the bump detail tapering back in as well as slightly different lettering and the raised detail surrounding letters compared to the OPs pics

Well, good news on both counts... top edge is very straight... no signs of distortion... and bottom edge has no rust, only minor scuff marks.

thx for the tips, Jim!
