New find after oil change

Any guesses on the noise? I bought it recently did the oil, now it sounds absolutely horrible. Video for the
reference. It’s the in the front. I’m not sure what it’s called differential? Transfer case? More I learn more I feel really scammed with the purchase but what’s life without people lying
its a 5.8l v8 4x4

edit: here’s a link to the noise

I could not tell anything from that video. There was a noise on a blank screen.

What did the old oil look like?
What weight oil did you put back in?
If there is a lot of sludge buildup in the motor(from not doing regular oil changes) then when you do it can knock sludge loose which then gets pulled into the oil pickup which can block it and that results in low oil pressure and knocking noises. Or it could be that the motor is just worn out and the OP had some really thick oil in it to make it quiet. Put a real oil presure gauge on the motor... the dash gauge is just an idiot light, if oil presure is zero at idle then you know.

gotcha, thank you for your input, I’ll see if I can source a gauge tomorrow and give it a run, it sounds very metallic clanking which is unfortunately most likely game over. The oil wasn’t crazy but I’m also an idiot when it comes to most things, it’s still in the bin I’ll dump some out and look tomorrow. I googled the recommended and went with 5w-30 royal purple brand figured why not expensive stuff if it’s old

ive seen a video where people use that Lucas oil and heavy stuff to sell it, haha guess I fell victim.

These motors were origoally speced to have 10w30 in them and 20w50 was recommended for extreme duty or if the motor has a lot of wear on it.

What you kept zooming in on is the front differential. Nothing in that is moving while the truck is parked. The noise is from the engine. What year truck?

There was a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) from Ford about using 5W-30 as the preferred weight but I don’t use anything lighter than 10W-30. This is from my owner’s manual.

i have used valvoline all fleet 15-40 in everything i service for over 40 years now, unless the newer vehicles call for 5-20 synthetic.
i have 40-50 year old engines i service with over 400,000 miles still purring like new.

so obviously it would be wise to use something much thicker, but is that a bandaid fix? Should I definitely get it check out?

I figured unless I lock the hubs it doesn’t do anything I just didn’t know, like I said I came into this truck completely blind with no help so it’s tough trying to diagnose things. Maybe I’ll swap some heavier stuff into it today

Agreed. At 100k+ miles, nothing thinner than 10W-30 is going into any of my engines.

thank you so much hopefully it’s something as simple as thin oil… she’s running 170k, would you think 10w-30 or maybe even a bit heavier?
