Bilstein shocks for stock height 2019 F350

Has anyone put the Bilstein 5100 24-274951 shocks on the front of a stock height 2017+ truck? It says they're for 2" lifted trucks and there's no option for stock height in the 5100 series. I'd rather stick with them than the painted 4600's to prevent rust issues.

2019 F350 dually.

Thanks.

Bilstein claims the 5100 and 4600 are valved the same on the rears.

Many people will tell you its fine to run the 5100 series on a stock height truck (front and rear).

I'd go with the 4600, but I live in the south so rust issues are of no concern.

Many people run the 5100 on stock height trucks with no reported issues.

I wish Bilstein would offer the 4600 zinc plated as well.

Yeah, a lot of owners have used that shock on their stock SD. No problem. There are plenty of threads discussing it. Bilstein was smoking something when they decided to put 2-2.5" lift as the fitment, for a shock that is not even 3/8" longer than their 4600 stock replacement.

Putting the “951s” on my stock height truck Thursday. It will work. No issues.

I just ordered 4600’s this week for my stock height F250. Hope to get them installed on Tuesday. I didn’t realize the 5100’s are so close in length, I just ordered the version Bilstein recommended for my application, since they seemed the same otherwise.

Lots of folks run the 4600’s and like them. And lots of folks (myself included) run the 5100’s in stock trucks and like them. They really are about 99.7% identical. Lol. I went with the 5100’s because I didn’t want the yellow and blue color, plus the zinc coating helps prevent rust and corrosion. Either way, you will like them over the stock shocks.

6 months later... lol, it's been 4 years and 60k+ miles. Nothing but smiles.

As mentioned, the 5100's and the 4600's are very, very similar, and while the 5100's do say 2-2.5" lift, they are also for stock height trucks. The only decision between these 2 are do you want yellow and blue, or blue and silver, and do you want a zinc coating or just a painted coating?

This gets brought up a lot, and I understand why, but either shock is perfectly fine for a stock height truck. I just posted this in another thread in the 23 section today:

When you compare the 5100's to the 4600's, you see that there is very minimal difference:

Fronts:
  • B6 4600 (Part# 24-274937): Extended length: 20.93" - Compressed length: 13.43" - Travel: 7.48"
  • B8 5100 (Part # 24-274951): Extended length: 21.2" - Compressed length: 13.46" - Travel: 7.76"
Rear:
  • B6 4600 (Part# 24-274944): Extended length: 31.13" - Compressed length: 18.74" - Travel: 12.36"
  • B8 5100 (Part # 24-274968): Extended length: 31.13" Compressed length: 18.74" - Travel: 12.36"

Bilstein tech support advised me that the valving on the 5100 series are tailored to off road driving whereas the 4600 have better highway manners and are more favorable for towing duties.
YMMV

When you inquired, did you give them specific part#'s for this specific application? Because myself, and others, recieved information from Bilstein tech support stating that the valving was exactly the same between the 4600's and 5100's for this application.

I have also inquired about 4600's and 5100's for different applications, and those did have slight differences in valving.

Here was the reply I received. My inquiry was specific to the '17+ Super Duty application, and I included the part#'s for the front and rear 4600's and 5100's that I was questioning.

"Thank you for contacting Bilstein of America, we appreciate your interest in our products. For this particular application I can see that the valving profiles for the front and rear 4600 and 5100 are exactly the same. The gas charge is also the same."
