So i have a 95 f150 that has a 5.0 and its definitely down on power for towing, so decided to do a 351w swap. Currently have a junkyard efi 351w in the garage that I'm going to tear apart and get it over to the machine shop. So have been doing a ton of research on parts for it but it seems that for a efi intake there is not a lot of options that keep the standard intake tract. So i can drop ~$900 on an edelbrock truck intake, or use the 5.0 upper that is similar to the old systmax intake and port my 351W lower to match the upper. Now thats an option but has anyone used the speedmaster Qualifier lower with a 5.0 truck upper? seems like it would be way easier to do a quick port match on the qualifier rather then completely hogging out the 351w lower. The qualifier seems like a taller intake so would there be any hood clearance issues trying to use both?
Following...
I did the 5.0L upper on the ported 5.8L lower, but I'm interested to see if anyone has tried the Speedmaster Qualifier lower with 5.0L upper... It's an interesting idea.
Not sure how a 302 EFI truck upper is going to bolt to that 351W Edelbrock lower clone. Bolt patterns are different. Cheapest is the 302 EFI upper on a ported 351W lower that I can surmise.
FWIW, I have the Edl truck one on my '88. Nice piece, but unsure if worth $1000 they run today.

Correct, that won;'t work at all.
The least expensive aftermaket intake are the Eddy performer clones... Professional Products, Speedmaster, and a few others. If you go that route just buy both upper and lower and a single TB to go with them. The port profiles in the lower section of these aftermarket intakes is WAY better than the OEM piece so it's well worth the cost on a performance build.
One option is to send your 351w upper and lower to Big Dogs Porting. They ported mine to flow 250 CFM when also porting the throttle body (stock is around 170) painted and shipped for $300. It was a 5 month turn-around but it was well worth the wait.
If your dead set on NOT using the 351w upper/lower, I recommend getting a matching set.
If you do not get the 3881, your not going to be using the stock truck throttle body.
If your not changing the cam, I think you'd be better off spending something (either money or time) on the stock e7 heads.
Since you want torque for towing, I think a lot of the intake options above (flow numbers, blah blah) are more for horsepower.
Short runners is for higher RPM and horsepower.
Long runners for lower RPM and more torque down low in the RPM range.
Where do you want your power band to be?
If you want something really different, and want to be able to port the intake to the max, go with that tall speedmaster and get the edelbrock 3882 upper, port away.

Have you installed this yet? What supporting mods do you have? Assuming its the truck in your signature? Sorry for all the questions, but this is the first Ive heard of this option.

I haven't had a chance to install it yet but hope to soon. Yes, it's going in the truck in my sig. For those of you on mobile phone: AFR 165's, Comp Cam .512/.512, long tube headers, PimpXshift ECM
Here's a link where he's testing one of these manifolds after Stage 2 Porting like the one I have: https://www.facebook.com/bigdogsporting/videos/3533692999974081/?extid=CL-UNK-UNK-UNK-IOS_GK0T-GK1C

yeah I have seen some of his videos and was talking to him and he said that the 5.0l truck intake and the 351w truck intake both flow the same, which didnt sound right to me, I even clarified that I was talking about the 5.0 truck intake the one that is a "systemax" clone and he again said that they both flow the same, and then he was trashing the Edelbrock manifold in a video, then he doesnt actually run his tests at 28 inches its run less and then "calibrated" for the equivalent of 28" in one of the videos he talked about not running both pumps and just runs the one most of the time and the result is software driven to 28". Now maybe thats fine and still accurate I really dont know, but it just seemed odd to me, combine that with 5 month turn around and I think I will look for another option.
Although I will say it does look nice, have you had it flow tested from another shop? would be interesting to see how close his flow numbers are vs a real 28" test.
I haven't had it tested anywhere, I wouldn't even know where to get one flowed around where I live. No telling how accurate those flow numbers are from him but I will say he opened it up quite a bit from stock so I imagine it flows more than stock. I'm waiting to take my unported stock manifold off and then do some side by side pics of the difference and then want to make a thread on it. Hard to beat for $300 though. It looks even better in person, the pictures don't do it justice.
