While driving in a stiff (been in worse) cross wind my hood popped up but the safety latch didn't let it open all the way..Was doing about 75 mph and at the top of an overpass with no one else around..Have not notice the hood flex others have talked about..Ford needs a wind speed to driving speed chart to know what is a safe speed to drive for the outside wind speed..Or just fix the issure..Anyone else have this happen..
I drive 80+mph on I-10 here in Texas and I haven't seen or heard of that happening to anyone. Never noticed hood doing anything odd either.
Great, now I have something else to look out for... lol.
Almost 16K on the clock, 1/2 of the miles at freeway speeds of 75-85............never had an issue of hood "flexing" or whatever term has been used in the past with high winds or while passing an 18 wheeler.
I haven't had it pop yet but I pulled over to make sure it was latched because the hood was flopping around a lot. I was driving 75 mph in to a pretty heavy head/cross wind.
I've never had the hood pop up, but I have had significant flex on several occasions. I live West Texas where the winds can really blow at times. The worst it happened was when I was driving 60mph into a 40mph straight wind at a slight angle (gusts to 60+) , and a semi came by the other direction also doing 60mph. The hood momentarily rippled from the front drivers corner almost to the middle. I thought my hood had come unlatched with how much it lifted, but it was stills secure and the hood was unharmed.
In a lot of miles of ford trucks, I’ve only ever had this happen when somebody had recently mistakenly pulled the hood latch while trying to release the brake. You can go quite a distance before having it “pop up”. Anyone touch your truck recently?
i haven’t heard of this being an issue with these trucks. This isn’t exactly a part of the truck on which they are making mechanical engineering innovations.
I wasn’t going to reply but everyone said it hasn’t happened to them. lol
My dad had the good of his 18 F-150 do it to him twice. Once on the ride home from the dealer after purchase and a second time just randomly after 50,000km. He swears the hood was definitely latched completely the second time cause he had not been under the hood for over a month.
Is there rubber adjustments you can spin up under the hood and along the fenders? I had to do this on my 2011 or the hood did all kinda movements at freeway speed.
Have experienced the hood movement once in a heavy cross/ head wind while on highway. It was enough to make me pull over and check it. The hood was latched tight, go figure. These trucks don't have the heavyweight hoods/body panels of years past so I suppose it's just something to live with. Coming unlatched is another story- I'd keep an eye on it for sure, that would be an experience I'd not want (hood coming up) to have. Probably pretty unlikely but possible I suppose if the latch were to become loose with excessive wind pressures on the hood.
when I first got my 2012 I noticed the hood seemed to move around a lot, although it never popped open on me. I took it to the dealer and they adjusted the stops and its been fine ever since.
I was towing down a two lane the other day doing about 60mph with about a 25-30mph headwind. A semi passed in the opposite direction and as his gust hit me, there was a loud bang and my hood popped open (thought I had blown an intercooler boot). Thankfully the safety catch held. I closed the hood, continued 80 miles home with no problems. I had driven about 300-400 miles since the last time the hood was opened.
I'm wondering if it was not latched securely all along or if I have something to worry about? Anyone else experience this?
