Overhead Liner with Speakers?

Anyone on here tried one of these ABS headliners with speakers?

Since there is no good place to install speakers in my '69 F100, I'm going to give this a shot.

Plan is to buy the headliner, trash the el cheapo speakers that come with it, replace them with some decent speakers, and put a shallow powered subwoofer under the seat. These will be conected to a decent receiver that plays CDs, and accepts USB drives. I find I rarely listen to the radio anymore these days. I just buy songs I like on iTunes and put them on a flash drive and keep it plugged in my daily driver.

I'll post pictures along the way in case anyone is interested.

Now.....what to do with the stock radio location? The headliner also comes with a place to mount the receiver.

I too have been curious about these. I believe they are called Highliners. If I was to use one, I think I would keep my factory radio location, and either hook up a CB, or try to turn it into a storage compartment. I'm a little worried about head room with it. I'm 6'2' and I already sit high in the cab. Definitely keeps us updated if you do it.

Some guys use a radio delete plate or make one. Maybe you can find one on ebay or in the market page on this site above.
I shxt caned the delete plate that was in my dash when, I installed a radio back in the 70's.
As I remember it said FORD on it.
So guy put in a bunch of little toggle switches & or little lights.

OK - I'm doing it. I just ordered the "Highliner" headliner from LMC.

I am talking to Crutchfield about speakers, a receiver, and a subwoofer.

I'll keep everyone posted.

I've looked at that headliner in the LMC catalog for years and figured I'd get one some day, so I look forward to hearing and seeing pics of how it works out. IIRC, it is paintable.

Funny that my dad had a similar idea 30 years ago, and made a metal frame for a radio above the rear view mirror, then cut a ~1ft wide piece of OSB to go all the way across just above the windshield at the front. We cut in holes for speakers in each corner (so just two speakers). I think he planned to wrap carpet around it, but never did. It's still installed today, and there is no headliner. Also no sun visors as his install didn't leave room for them (I still have them though).

So you are going to replace the speakers that come in it for upgraded ones from Crutchfield? What are they sugesting ti use for a receiver, sub, and speakers? Do they recomend using a powered out from the receiver or line outs to an amp?

I told them I didn't need anything really fancy, but wanted the receiver to play CDs and to have a USB on the front.

Here are links to the items they are suggesting. However, neither of these subs will fit under or behind my seat. Well, one might fit under, but when someone sat in the seat, the springs would hit the sub.

Receiver:

Speakers:

or

Powered Subwoofer:

or

Wiring and Cables:

and

I'm thinking this Infinity Sub would work under my seat:

Wow to many controls all on the dial to set. A person sure can't keep driving an setup a the way you want to hear an single song tune if it don't have enough bass or what ever.
I still like the old school 70/80's radios that an be adjusted while driving an not take your eyes off the road so much.

Here is what I did, just two speakers behind the seats in a panel I made. You can fit a single DIN in the stock bezel with some trimming.

Let us know if you can use the headliner trim or not with set up when you can. The pictures I saw showed it installed without the trim.

I like your speaker placement, but I have a in-cab gas tank. No plans to move it at this point.

I won't be fiddling with all those controls much at all. I'l just plug in a USB drive with about a 1,000 songs loaded on it and let it play.

The new Headliner is Here!
I have decided to install the receiver in the original location instead of in the headliner. However a prior owner of this truck cut out the center of the radio bezel to make a DIN receiver fit. I will have to find a replacement radio bezel. I've located three online but all are backordered. There is also one or two on Ebay, but there are not in great condition. May have to go with one of them until I can get a new one.

I have also decided to not go with the JVC receiver for which I posted a link above in a prior post.
I am now going with this receiver:
https://www.classiccarstereos.com/19...h-usa-740.html
It will match the truck much better and will fit in the original bezel (once I find one).
