4WD Noise when coasting
My 2018 F250 only has 4,400 miles on it and today it was snowy / slippery out so I engaged 4WD. I noticed around town (20-25mph) it had a weird noise when coasting so I took it to a local straight road (~40mph) and the noise was even louder.
If I give the truck even the tiniest amount of throttle the noise seems to go away. It's only when fully coasting. I tried to video tape the sound but it doesn't do it full justice.
Is this something I should have looked at?

I use my 4WD a lot. I have never heard any noise at all when engaged and coasting. Once, I even drove 20km on a clear highway because I couldn’t tell the 4WD was engaged. Turned off an ice road and forgot I had it in 4. Ugh. I’m new to the Ford vacuum system so I won’t speculate on what’s wrong, but something is.

My front hub (i think) has a slight and quick rattle when i hit bumpy sections going off road, regardless of 4H or 2H. Did it from day one and never had a problem. Hard to tell from video but if it is loud, I'd take it in. By chance did you check to see if the issue happens when hubs are in Auto vs. Locked?

Dealer told me it was normal after taking a drive with me. I drove two other trucks on their lot and they both made the same sound, if not louder, then my truck. So I chalked it up to normal. I don’t use it enough to make a huge deal amount of it - it’s not meant to be used full time especially at highway speeds.

I posted earlier saying I’ve never heard that sound. Maybe I do have that noise. I don’t get to really listen to the sounds coming from the system because I have another constant annoying sound in the truck that I can not get resolved. Went to the dealer, they laughed and sent me packing. Went on numerous forums and only got joke answers. Ugh. So frustrating. No matter how many times I tell my wife to be quiet, she just keeps on yapping.
ill be here all week folks. Don’t forget to tip your waitress.

What was the ultimate diagnosis and repair?
I just had an identical sound during same driving conditions with my 2019 F350 SD and had it into the Ford dealer for service. They diagnosed the noise as coming from the transfer case as well. However, they told me it was normal and customary for the vehicle. Not sure I believe them...
