What do I have here?

I'm Mel from Northern CA. This relic as been sitting on the ranch here for a few years. Used to butcher cows (see attached crane and winch). It's a '62 FWD V8. Not sure what I should do with it. If I decide to sell it, I'm not sure how to properly describe it. Is it worth salvaging? What would you do with it?

It's either an F100 (5 lug wheels) or an F250 (8 lug wheels) 4WD with an 8' Flareside pickup bed.

It's as rough as a cob, but has value, does it have a pink slip?

Suggest removing the crane/winch and don't mention in the ad it was used to butcher steers. Some people are squeamish, then there are the vegans.

Na - you could point out it was ONLY used on vegans. That's called marketing.

Woof, that one is rough. There's value but it's disappearing with every raindrop. The bedsides look taller than normal from your picture. There was a thread hear not long ago where someone was reviewing the different bed types out there on these, so that might be good to look up - lots of good discussion.

Does it run, or turn over by hand??? There's definitely value there. The engine is likely a 292 Y Block. I'd bet someone would be in their glory to drive it as a rat rod. I personally love rusty trucks.

The box sides are higher because it is a long box. The box is also wider by 5 inches.

Yes it runs. It runs nicely after replacing coil, fuel pump, ignition switch, and gas tank, and a little carb work. Took a bit of work to clean the engine of leaves, spiders, mouse luggage, etc.

The crane has been removed - but the winch? I think it came with the truck - it runs off the front PTO. It works good - you put the 4WD gear box in neutral, and then run it with the shifter. I thought that would be a plus.

It's a F100 with 5-lug wheels. I've got the pink slip - it was granddads. He bought it new.

It's now safely out of the rain. The rusty exterior is actually pretty solid - only the step on the driver's side needs rust work.

I was told that it ran by my father before he passed, but it took a few weeks to figure out some minor issues with the engine - the gas tank rotted at the bottom seam. The only running problem I have now is the gas pedal is a bit sticky so it get's stuck revving high sometimes and you have to pump it.

I would think the winch was added by the dealer or even afterwards but appears to be period correct and I think adds to the value of the truck. Keep it on there for sure. Cool truck.
