Hang out mostly in the f100 section related to the slow lack of progress on my 71 f100 plus a 69 f100 I had for a year or two.
Have not had a modern pickup for about six years or so. Actually having trouble recalling my last modern pickup truck.
In any event took possession of a new black 2018 F150 XLT Sport. I mean just took possession during my lunch break.
Doesn't have everything my 2016 Expedition EL has nor the 2015 Fusion Se I traded in, but it is still pretty nicely equipped. They added a trailer brake. I added a bed mat and the Ford all-weather floor mats. Has the 2.7 Ecoboost. The 3.5 Ecoboost on the Expedition has been pretty impressive, so interested to see how this one works out with the 10 speed transmission and the multiple driving modes. Stuck it in Sport mode immediately.

Nice. The XLT Sport is a nice package. Mine is an XLT Sport, 302A. Almost as nice as a Lariat.

Keep that truck on high ground for the next week or so.

Just saw your signature, I have a Harley too, 2016 Road Glide.

Congratulations on your new F150. I've been very pleased with mine and I hope you have the same ownership experience.

I was resistant to the 2.7, assuming it was less powerful than the previous small ecoboost for the F150. So initially, I was only considering the 3.5 Eco and the 5.0. However, the sales guy showed me a chart indicating a towing capability of about 9,000 pounds on the 2.7. So I fell for that. However, after reviewing further I don't that figure applies to my truck. At best it appears that with the 3.55 rear end (I have the 302A package as well), I might be able to do 7,000 pounds (which is fine). But I am not sure if that it even applicable unless you have the heavy duty towing package. Of course I did this follow up research after signing on the dotted line. The tow capacity is not a huge thing with me because our expedition is longer and has the heavy duty tow package with a gvwr of about 9200 pounds with the 3.5 Eco. Our current camper is only about 4,500 pounds.
We are looking forward to a road trip to west texas to check on family property where the roads suck courtesy of the oil field traffic. So that should be fun.The expedition handles the roads out there OK, but expect the pickup to be more enjoyable (no four-wheeling type of stuff, just rough country roads).

Well if you got the heavy duty or Max tow package you would have a 3.5 Eco in that one as well.

Love my 2.7L

I didn’t really have a preference on model other than it being able to tow a small trailer & have a bed on it lol Wife & I usually buy cars. This is my first truck & I’m loving it!!

My first of the "modern" trucks. Last new truck I had was around 2003 and those were F250s and 2500HD. Pleasantly surprised. Currently getting about 20MPG (provided the electronics are accurate). Have added a toolbox (lord knows I have gone through a few of those over the years), which took up about a third of my bed, a basic bed mat and had dealer put in the upgraded floor mats. Thinking of a grill guard (would either be Frontier - they are made just down the road - or RanchHand).
Kind of missing the front sensors - have rear sensors and a camera.
Enjoy driving it so far. We are having so much rain right now, it is keeping me off my Harley as my commuter.

Well, not sure about that. The 2.7 Ecoboost shows an 9,000 pound capacity when paired with the 3.73 rear end and something called the 2.7 Ecoboost payload package. The 2.7 shows no caveats as related to towing up to 7,700 pounds with the 3.55 rear end.

The real catch is you are limited to 12,900 GCWR and 7600 (7700 if 4x2). I had a 2018 with the same setup and once you factor curb weight, cargo and tongue weight. You end up closer to a 6500 pound rating because the hitch weight really kills the small payload these trucks have. Not sure what yours is but mine had a 1432 pound payload and it was a killer.

I would have to look at my door jamb again, but thought mine was somewhere around 1600. This combo was not really meant to be a towing vehicle and for me, having it as a secondary tow vehicle for our TT would be nice. In the f150 line, I would have specified the 3.5 and max tow if planning to tow much or even the 5.0 v8. But I was payment sensitive and was kind of interested in how this ecoboost performed. Having relatively decent MPGs is appealling (after coming from a Ford Fusion and a Harley). The wife's Expedition might reach 24MPG on the highway at below 70, otherwise about 22 on our highways at 75-80.
I am thinking the 10speed tranny helps a lot. I think the new expeditions got paired with the 10-speed as well.

Most people that track the LoM (AKA Lie-o-Meter) have found that the displayed MPG is typically around 5% optimistic over reality. IOW, if it is showing 20 MPG, reality will be closer to 19 MPG. You can fix this by going into the console diagnostic mode and changing the AFE BIAS from 1000 to about 950, and in my experience this puts the MPG display darn near spot on. If you poke around on the forum for "AFE BIAS", you will find the procedure on how to change it.

I ran across this at another forum:
For Lariat and up 8 inch Display:

Engine off.
1. Press and hold OK Button on the left side of the steering wheel and don't release it until the end.
2. Press push start Button only (Not Brake Pedal) to turn to Accessory Mode.
3. Once Message “Accessory Mode” appears.... press the Brake Pedal and turn the Engine on.

OH - Take your hand calculated MPG and divide it by the LOM display MPG....then multiply by 1000. This new number is what you will change the AFE Bias to.
Mine worked out to be 934 because my hand calculation was 18.3mpg and my LOM said 19.6mpg. Example: 18.3/19.6 = .9337xxxx. Multiply by 1000 gave me 934 (I rounded up) as the number to use.

4. Engineering Test Mode appears instantly. Release OK button.
5. Scroll to AFE Bias and push OK to change it to the number you calculated. Note, it takes quite a few clicks to get to AFE Bias.
6. Once done, turn off truck and it will update your mpg, including your Trip 1 and Trip 2. You'll see it has changed the next time you start the truck.

Note....quite a few of us have been successful just holding down the OK button, starting the truck, then releasing the OK button once Engineering Mode pops up.

For 4.2 inch Display:
Engine off.
Press and hold OK Button on the left side of the steering Wheel.
Continue holding OK button and start the engine...don't let go of OK button until "Engineering Test Mode" appears.
Go through the menu pressing and releasing OK Button until you reach "AFE Bias 1000" appears.
Press and release Down. Using Left and Right change 1000 to the Number You calculated. Press OK.
To leave Engineering Mode after you are done, just turn the engine off.

I am so glad you posted that! That should be in a sticky at the top of the forum.
