2004 f150 5.4 timing question

code timing bank 1 error....i took it all apart and found the right side chain guide all in pieces....the top one in the picture....the picture is of the newly installed parts...

i just have finished installing new phasers guides tensioners and chains...i have followed all procedures to line up the timing marks....11 oclock etc....

all installed and grenade pins pulled....everything looks good on the right side at 11 oclock....when i turn the crank 1 360 revolution back to the 11 oclock postion ...the tensioner collasps ...and the chain opposite the tensioner is loose....i am thinking this is why the original broke in the first place....i cant for the life of me figure out if this a problem or normal because of no oil pressure on tensioner....

the left side is fine during all revolutions....please help....i cant figure this out....i have just reinstalled chains again and still the same thing...thank you

That tensioner looks fully collapsed to me. Did you upgrade to newer spring loaded tensioner? If they had grenade pins I'm thinking you did. That shouldn't happen.

the tensioner goes in and out about every 3/4 turns of the crank...the chain gets loose at the same time...not sure if when there is oil pressure this will stop ...i put in new oil pump as well...

i did see a video online of a guy cranking his engine with the timing cover off...his tensioner went in and out while cranking...his was on the right side of engine as well

Are they OEM parts or at least quality aftermarket ones? Or cheapest on the shelf eBay stuff?

after market...not cheapest on ebay...

i am thinking that its one of the valves that puts pressure on the cam as im turning it....with no oil pressure in tensioner to hold chain from collasping ....thats the only thing i can firgure out....

Yeah its pressure from the valves against the cam thats causing it to get slack in the chain. However, the tensioner should maintain enough spring pressure to keep the chain from jumping a tooth. Did you install the guide arms correctly? The left arm has a small bump near the pivot. They look the same but there is a left and a right side arm.

Best to use old style steel ratcheting tensioners

Of course you have very little pressure without oil pump . Melling for one still makes the old style tensioners without a seal to blow out .

all back together ...of course i forgot the stupid timing sprocket (or whatever its called) and had to take the timing cover/ power steering pump off ..to get it back on...stupid me. .the passenger side valve cover is a b**ch...so i took the rubberwasher/bolts out and it was much easier...of course i put them back in to tighten..lol

..none the less its all finished and running now.....so very quiet ... and more power as well....

also..someone at some time has stripped the #4 cylinder 7mm threads in the valve cover that hold the COP.....so that screw isnt holding very well..maybe get oversize self tapping screw or does anyone have any ideas...dont feel like taking the valve cover off...at least not this week..

thank you everyone who has helped and posted videos..i couldnt have done it without you.

oh man i am soo happy...that was a tough job... i think i could do it in half the time next time...runs waaaayy better..ive been drivin around with miss firing and would have to turn off overdrive to get revvs up just to keep movin up hill...if yu have a decent amount of tools and some time...you can do it....good luck to all

i would have to say that the toughest bolt on the whole job...was the furthest away oil pickup to oil pump bolt...easy getting out...took an hour to get back in...no hoist...

If you had oil pan off the oil pu bolts are easy

Plus it is very necessary to clean out ground up guide pieces in oil pu screen . They are tough to get them out of there even when off . To me the worst thing is the power steering bolts .
