New to the forum

So I introduced myself in the "new guy" forum. I'm getting a 1961 F350 flare side. 6cyl recently built from the ground up. Can you guys take a look for glaring issues please? My goal will he to get it to as stock as possible but maybe upgrade the brakes and whatever else to make it safer. It was my grandfather's , who has past on, then my father started the rebuild from the ground up and he's has passed recently. Now it's my baby, so to speak, and i want to finish it right.

Obviously the nerf bars and window vents need to go. He even did a bed lining over the wood and everything, even the original wood. Sigh....

it ran before my dad got sick and passed but now it wont. Pretty sure its electrical.

The red will always stay, as that's what dad wanted but the white trim seems too white. I'm guessing it should be a creamier white. Anything else you can see from the photographs?

The bench seat is from some other truck and the headliner needs work too.

Nice looking truck! Looks like a 9' bed? Post up a photo of the warranty plate and folks here can give you some info on how it was originally equipped.

Will do. It's about 2 hours away and I need to tow it home. Next time I'm there I'll make sure to get a photo of the numbers in the glove box.

Thanks for all the welcomes and compliments on the truck guys. I'm really excited to get her home and I appreciate all your help.

Should I put my warranty tags on a different post?

yea wouldn’t hurt to put them in a new thread with the title VID decode or something like that. ND will see that and decide it for you.

The pride of ownership really shows. Appears to have well taken care over the last 5 decades. The original white trim ('60-'63) on the front end was " corinthian white" a creamer shade than typical late model gloss whites. However, front end looks very sharp ( with correct black trim outline) and I probably wouldn't mess with it. However, outside mirror heads and brackets could use a color change, they were gray ( color of your inside mirror) . Also wheel color on F 350's were gloss black, so that will have a dramatic effect on the appearance also. Interior looks super clean, only change would be a black heavy duty vinyl seat upholstry with grain pattern. Power boosters or a hydrovac unit are good ways to ease the effort of braking. Biggest issue with F 350's no longer used for low speed commercial or farm work is the super low differential gears, usually 5.87 or 5.13. A good rear end shop should be able to swap out the guts of the differential with a more friendly 3.73 ring, pinion and carrier.

That is a beautiful truck. It's wonderful to have something where you can feel connected to the men who made you who you are.

Thanks Ratty and Triple. I'm so excited to get her home and work on it. I'll definitely change the color to the rims and mirrors. I will probably not attempt the front end white any time soon.

Quote Tripleframe: Corinthian white is creamier end quote

I thought Corinthian White was purer and the later Wimbledon White which I think came out in 65 was the creamier choice? The truck looks brighter this way I think.

I searched the color code "J" and its Monte Carlo red according to the followed site. I can't tell you how happy that makes me. I wouldn't have changed the color but it would have bugged me if the truck was suppose to be green, or something, and it was painted red. Anyway, I found this link and Corinthian White looks pretty creamy to me. Thoughts?

In truck land colour code J is Rangoon Red and is very common. Be happy with what you have and just think you don't have to pay for a paint job. It looks just fine the way it is.
