Time to register oil pressure
Hi I've got a 2017 f250 xlt 6.7 that has 10000km on it and ever since new it has taken a full 2-3 seconds to show oil pressure. engine tone pitch sometimes changes when the gauge does register . It is not rattling or ticking so I don't think it's starving of oil, but takes a little longer to build pressure. Just curious to know what others are experiencing. I have changed the oil twice so far and used motorcraft filters each time. Maybe it's normal for this engine , but every vehicle I've ever owned has built oil pressure immediately on start unless I changed the oil which would create an expected delay even when prefilling the filter.

Welcome to FTE. What you think is an oil pressure gauge operates only as an on/off indicator. The needle does not move with fluctuating pressure, it only stays at mid-point on the gauge when there is satisfactory pressure. I hate that myself ... I want to see the needle move ... haven't decided if I'll install an aftermarket gauge or not. I haven't paid attention to any delay, but now that you mention it, I will today when I start the truck. Doubt it's of any consequence though.

Well, I completely forgot about this conversation until a few minutes ago. Took a buddy to the shooting range today, and every time I started my truck I did so using remote start. So, I just went and tried it while using the "push to start" button on the dashboard. My gauges are part of the digital display panel between/behind my speedometer and tach, and it takes 2 or 3 seconds to generate the initial image. So, I don't even see my "oil pressure" gauge until 2 or 3 seconds after start-up, but it always displays pressure being present. According to engine management algorithms across most all manufacturers, if there was insufficient pressure, the engine would shut off. So perhaps your slight delay is normal ... readout is delayed while the trucks computers are starting (booting) up.

There was a run of bad oil pumps in late 2016 / early 2017 builds. Dealers with affected trucks on their lots had to start them cold in the morning and if the gauge didn't show pressure in a certain amount of seconds, the pump needed changed out. I can't remember the date range or pressure / seconds requirement but certainly something worth investigating. Here was the long running thread on it.

Believe me, if there is an oil pump problem it will manifest itself long before the warranty expires. Should the worst happen, you'll get a new engine with an extended warranty to boot.

Alright onto my next question, I'm getting a humming/drone noise around 1300rpm in every gear while cruising. Also when letting off the throttle and coasting to a stop I'm getting a rattle sound from the engine especially when I let off at 1300rpm . Seems like something is loading up and rattling when the pressure is taken off pretty annoying. I've checked all around and zip tied everything that moves under the hood and checked for clearance on the firewall just in case something was contacting and found nothing. Had my father revving it up today and the rattle seemed like it was coming from the turbo area and when I disconnected the wastegate vacuum line the rattle changed to a different sound. I'm planning on starting another thread but thought I would ask anyone here first if this is normal or something unique to mine , thanks in advance
