Almost looks like an under hood brace to me.

Thats not a crossmember that goes inside the cab against the back wall just below the rear window.
Mixer Man is correct, it goes under the hood at the rear edge.

It doesn't belong on the hood, I have not seen one like it but the closest in looks is the brace under the cab floor boards that attaches to both rocker panels but that particular brace is generally in 3 pieces

I looked thru the Ford Truck parts and Accessories catalog and the closest I could find are these two cross members which are for a panel truck

The roof braces on a panel don't have those ears near the ends or the flags with the holes in it..From what I understand from a previous discussion the 53-54 didn't come with that floor brace and though this brace might fill that need it could have come from a completely different duck..

My truck didn't have the center brace...just the left and right braces. I bought one but the floor has a slight bow in it and the center brace was flat. Couldn't get it to fit without doing some serious bending

Top cross member in pic is one of the two center cross members, the one in the center is the one that goes to the front of the box next to the cab, the bottom cross member is the rear most member..

cross-member

Thanks John

The top one is a center one-- I got 2 of those bolted on the bottom of the bed now, those were the only 2 on the bed when I took it off-- so that one in the picture must be a EXTRA-- there is only 4 cross- members under the bed correct--so the other 2 are for that bed and can be used--- Thanks for all you help---

There is on the short boxes, I can't say for a long box as I have no experience with them..I'm not sure what the T shaped piece is that's with the rear cross member unless you were using it to prop it up

The t part is a 5" wide panel connected to that cross-member looks like a filler panel it is original-- this member looks like one to hold a spare tire and it has a trailer light socket installed in it neatly so I guess to tow something this member is HEAVY and beefy and looks original with the bed--- I will find out when my bed comes back from blaster and see what fits--- so now I know which one goes to cab and other 2 are installed on bottom of bed, that is one good start--Thanks again

The center cross members have an angle to the pads that sit on the frame to allow for the arch in the frame above the differential..
