2016 f-250 spare size and Firestone MT vs Goodyear Duratrac
So my new to me truck came with an absolutely chewed up set of 35x12.5 Firestone Destination MT's (see nasty picture below). After realizing the spare was the wrong size I need to do something. I want all tires the same size, towing/traveling without a full size spare under the truck isn't acceptable to me.
#1 Can I fit a 35" spare under the truck? Or is the stock 275/70 about as big as it gets. I looked and didn't see much space.
#2 Are the Duratrac's a quieter and better riding tire? The MT's are pretty loud (likely because of how chewed up they are).
#3 How low can I go in PSI with an empty truck to help the ride? Wife isn't thrilled with the "truck feel"

My guess is that the spare tire holder could hold whatever the largest iem tire size available is (so if Ford offered up to 19” tires on your model, then presumably the spare tire holder could hold that stock size).

Duratracs are noisy; not too bad in the cab, but you can hear it coming down the road. Good tire though. I think any large lug tires like that will be noisy.

I’m running 325/65/18 duratracs and feel they are the best tire I would run MT but there is no tread life on the road. (Once you get into 35s and up the price range per tire is small vs a 550 BMW you can find bargain tires for 125 to brand new at 500 and up each) To me they are very quiet and people don’t hear them from outside like a MT but maybe it’s just my engine they hear and I keep them pumped to 65psi. You may. Be able to fit a 35 under there some modification may be required and you will want to be sure the tire is not getting too close to any exhaust pipe. I had a 33 under mine till the steel cable broke and dropped the tire on the street! Just my luck an ambulance was behind me and stopped in time w the sirens on. Going to rebuild it with overkill stainless steel lines. If anything happens I’ll put it on the front since it’s a 33 anytime I go far I put my full size spare in the bed. They deffinetly fit on the roof! But I can’t justify spending about 1000 to put my tire up there then some more to buy a cover for it to protect it from the sun.

65 psi is where you want to be those tires a bald even when my last set of duratracs got low the final miles were rough there is simply no material remains to coushin the ride people even said wow this thing is roooouuughhhh on my truck as well. Slapped on new tires and my 02 is riding on a cloud.

Mine has factory 20s and a 275-70-18 as a spare I believe. I know it's an 18" wheel though. There's about an inch between the tire and the receiver.

Tire pressure is going to depend on what tires you end up with. I run low 30's in my 37x13.50x20 Toyo RTs unloaded. I based it off of the Toyo inflation charts and my axle weights of my truck.
As for what tire will fit in the stock spare location. This is a 37x13.50x20 Toyo RT on a stock 20" wheel. A heat shield between it and the exhaust it is good to go.

So I picked up a set of duratracs in 275/70 and what a difference. I realize my old tires were destroyed and a mud tire, but I didn’t expect this much difference.
- Road noise gone, only hear wind and engine
- Ride is great, not as bumpy of a ride, even the wife commented
- Acceleration seems better, must be the torque change of a smaller tire
