Well, sad news they closed the park and it will be a storage lot for some auction company. So much for the Diesel Nationals this year. And I guess I'll never have another chance of running my 65 VW Bug down the historic track neither.
Read about it here.

Sorry to see it go. I never raced there (Leslie did with a Mustang), but had gone to races and swap meets. We even tried to use it for brake testing at one time.

That is too bad to see happen.

I remember it mostly as an outsider who follows things in the NHRA.
I also remember Scott Kalitta getting killed there in qualifying there some time ago. Sad day that was

I just read the announcement letter from the Napp family (owners) that they are reconstructing buisness practices. It appears most things will still carry on EXCEPT drag racing. NO drag racing on the grounds which is unbelievable since that is the reason the grounds were formed in 1965.
I'll try to post the letter.

It's definitely the end of a era. My son was looking forward to running his project down the 1320. I knew in the back of my mind that this was going to happen as I live 5 miles as the crow flies from E town. They build all high end homes around the track and sold them during the week days. People said they never knew about the noise the track made.(can you really be that clueless to not know your buying a 700k home and not check out the neighborhood) The Napping family fought for years to keep the track. I guess money won out.

Hate to say it, but there are a crap ton of folks that really are that clueless, they probably drove by and thought it was a landing strip for gliders.

I loved going to E-Town.
There is a lot of history at that track.

not true. as per a conversation with Mike Napp on Wednesday, the only thing that will end is drag racing. and this is nothing new, the drag racing has been a money loosing deal for over 10 years now.
the tuner crowd and all the problems they brought did not help matters either.
Diesel nationals will still be held, that is one of the larger draws at the track.

the airport in Morganville closed because the Fenwick brothers retired after getting sick, and no one wanted to buy or operate that airport. so they sold it to developers.

Not yet but based on their letter above they plan on it. I think that's what he based his comment on.
