I went to close my door on my F-350 Crew Cab today and the door won't latch it just shuts and then pops back open. It's the front passenger door. I tried playing with the switch with in the door but it won't latch or click. Has anybody heard of any troubles with these? My truck was built in March and not inside the recall window.
You on flat ground or a slope? Haven’t seen it on the 17s, but on the older trucks you could tweak the frame when off-canter and the door would not shut right. If you’re in a bind and stuck, you could try driving one front tire up on a curb and try to shut it, and then try the other on a curb to see if you tweak it just enough to shut it.
First time near freezing up here this season - could just be stiff weatherstripping and your door was already near the tight tolerance spec, and now won’t latch all the way. Either way, sounds like a trip to the dealer. Good luck!
The door itself closes fine but the latch mechanism that will click and lock into place with shutting the door does not click into place and hold the door shut. It's easy to compare it to the driver side that I can manually lock and unlock by hand.
I realize this is a (very) old thread, but my 2019 F250 is doing the same thing. The passenger door won't latch. I have to hold it shut, then hit the lock button to get it to stay closed. Curious if there was a fix, TSB, etc.
Had the same thing happen to my 2017 SD. Dealer didn't want to tear it down until I proved it to them with a video. Invariably, it won't do it when you take it to the shop. Ultimately, they replaced the latch mechanism and cabling (in which they found a pinch in the wire).
I drive a 2017 F250 6.2. My passenger door is doing the exact same thing. I just had the frozen lock recall performed on all doors on 1-11-19. This morning, 1-14-19 I pick up my friend for breakfast and passenger door won't latch again. It's back at the dealer, they are replacing the latch mechanism this time. They think something may have broken inside when it was frozen. I will update when I get my truck back. This is very frustrating, not to mention unsafe.
Yep. Picked mine up last night after having a couple of recalls done + service. Door lock and engine heater cord. Oil\Fuel filters. Got in the truck and the drivers door would not shut. LOL Start truck, water in fuel light on. Go ahead and drive it for a bit thinking maybe it will reset. Nope, reduced power mode. HAHAHA Its back at the dealer now. Good humor. The truck ran like a scalded dawg. Now its a puppy.
This is typically caused by gelling diesel fuel. I live in Chicago where these past few weeks have been super-cold! When the temps dipped to 20 below, wind chills at 50 below, my 2017 F250 6.7L started but I got the "Low fuel pressure" light on. Definitely a sign of gelled fuel. Mind you, I park in a wide open lot with no outlets to plug in my engine heater overnight. Poured half a bottle of Diesel 911 (red bottle) in my full tank of gas, waited about 30 mins. Cranked it up, ran like it was perfect! Now, before it gets too cold, I pour half a bottle of the Diesel 911 (white bottle) into the tank every time I fill up. Works great! Autozone, Pep Boys, O'Reilly's, Menards were all sold out. I ordered a case of each on Amazon.
Hope this helps.
BTW - I too am experiencing the same "door won't latch" issue. Seems to be related to the cold. Still haven't come up with a suitable fix other than to hold the door closed when driving. After drive for 10 mins or so, it typically latches. WTF!?!
No grantees but my 17 was doing this a week ago. Weather was -38C so even us Canadians were freezing. All 4 doors were the same, ended up spraying the latch inside the jamb with WD40 and all is good again. my hunch is the grease they are using to lube the latch isn't mega cold rated.
Jetta door did same thing on wife’s loaner this week, -30, door would not latch shut. Lock de ice was the solution. The lubrication in them gets to stiff. Locks don’t latch properly. Especially if there is any moisture in there and it’s frozen too. Weekend before back door on my 2017 wouldn’t open up, couldn’t open the tailgate, until I peeled the tonneau cover up and broke it loose. If it warms up gonna Armourall the crap outta all my door seals, to repel moisture. Also I wax inside the door jams to keep the moisture off so the seals don’t stick when frozen.
Had my 2018 one week and the back door latch froze while I was trying to bring my 5 year daughter to school. Brought it right to the dealer and they said they fixed it. 3 weeks later happened again and this time two of the locks wouldn't move either. First time I had it in one of the service guys said that they all use Rust-Check on theirs as a preventative measure. Just spray it right in the latch. I tried it the second time it happened and it did seem to work because the door latched right after. Locks still frozen though. Already filed a complaint with Transport Canada.
Mine does the same. Did it 3 times. I noticed that it does it after wash, when stays overnight, when cold. Weird part is it did it in -25 Celsius AND in -3 Celsius.
Ford dealership has no clue how to fix it. They had no clue about how to deal with my "Trailer on - Trailer off" allert also.
But they always want my truck for the day, and it pisses the crap out of me.
Not to mention I might lose the truck now,as it has that black beautiful carpet inside, and it might be in that huge recall about carpet catching fire.
End of rant.
Will update after seeing if various greases work.
