How many diesel guys have made the switch?

I have been lurking here for a while and certainly appreciate the wealth of information and opinions.

I have been contemplating a switch from my 2004 Duramax as the extended cab just doesn't suit our family of 6 any longer. The truck itself has been great and almost 14 years of trouble free operation.

I bought the truck new and prior to that had a 7.3 that I loved as well. Have always been a diesel fan and was in love with the original 5.9 Cummins when they came out.

I do live in MT and we are in the mountains often, but don't feel like I need the diesel. It would be a daily driver and occasionally pull a TT(32' Bunkhouse). I think the 6.2 would get the job done here for everything that I need at this point, but also hard psychologically to give up the diesel. Any others make the switch and if so, how has it been?

many here have jumped ship.. to the 6.2L Gas...

I never owned a Diesel... but 2 years ago I needed a Tow Rig... and did tons of research on diesel and Gas to tow... ( 10,000 pounds )

all brands and types..

6.2L is very capable.. and easy to live with on a daily basis ..

my rig.. I carry 1,500 pounds in bed of truck and trailer is over 9,000 pounds.. and I do 1,800 miles in 4 days ... twice a year.

I will be repeating the above in 2 weeks. my 6.2L has 154,000 miles and still happy.

I started driving diesel in 1995 with my IDI 7.3. Since then I've owned most of the diesels out there, my last being a 2014 6.7 PS. I'm now on my 2nd 6.2, after 35k miles, the only thing that ever gets me is the unloaded hwy mpg. But that comes at a steep diesel price. Plus for me, I would modify the exhaust, because I will not be stuck somewhere due to a sensor failure, etc. Then at that point my motor warranty would be gone. So I'm sticking here in my 6.2. My best advice I can give to anyone leaving the diesel world to enter the easy 6.2 life, is find a truck with 4.30 gear. (assuming you want a 4x4 with 32+" tires)It made all the difference to me.

I had a 2001 7.3L prior to buying my new 6.2L. In the 7,500 miles I've had the new truck, it has done everything as good, if not better, than the 7.3L. My oil change was only $23. The new 6 speed transmission matches the motor very well too (I did opt for the 4.30 rear).

I only had 7.3's so the difference between them and the 6.2 is small. I have buddies that have every other kind of diesel and I've been in them all. For me the 6.2 is fine and I don't miss diesel at all. In my experience the MPG's have been the same so why pay the upcharge and then wonder what the repair bill is going to be when out of warranty. Yeah no thanks.

As far a physiologically... haha... I had a friend question my manhood for going gasser in which my response was that he should look in the mirror and see who has the small man/small ***** issue. I'm perfectly comfortable with my manhood and I love this 6.2 knowing I have 2x the payload he does.

Got a road trip starting today and looking forward to seeing what MPG's I get empty on the freeway. If I get better than 14 this rig is a winner hands down.

I have never owned a diesel personally, my company has quite a few Super Duty service trucks, two with 6.0 and one with a 6.4 and they've all had a bunch of problems. We also have 2 F250 pickups with 5.4l motors and one f550 20 foot flatbed with a V10, the gassers have had little to no issues.

This has made me jaded twords diesels because I've been stranded by a work truck. I thought long and hard about the 6.7, after much reading and research on this site I chose the 6.2 Boss. I don't think I'll regret it in the long run.

exactly my experience as well coming out if my 7.3. Miss the old beast but as a daily driver this truck is hands down the winner.

I had a 2011 6.2; a 2015 6.7; and now a 2017 6.2. The 6.7 was a beast no doubt but it was more than I needed and I don’t miss it.

I had a tuned 2011 6.7 powerstroke. I got rid of it in 2015 because it started having electrical problems (not related to the motor). I miss the power and fuel economy but 99% of the time it sat around because i didnt want to fire it up to drive to the store (1minute drive) or to get the mail (1 minute also). Its so nice to have a gas engine again. While i haven't towed with my 6.2, because i just picked it up last month, i would have no worries hitching up 10,000 pounds.

I loved my 7.3L. She was a phenomenally good truck. Selling her was a tough decision, but I think the new 6.2L is a fitting replacement. I look forward to another 15 years of wonderful service from the new truck.

When it was time to let the 7.3 go, I couldn't bring myself to buy an diesel that was in my price range. We were trying to pay down some debt at the time. So I found a 6.2 with what looked like gentle mileage on her to be a 'gap' truck until I could get back into a diesel. I was surprised how capable the 6.2 is compared to how the 7.3 performed. I think the 7.3 was a better truck, but by a very small margin. Now that I have some miles on this truck, I can see keeping it for a while. I am no longer in a hurry to get back to a diesel.

I got a 6.2 F250 in August. Came from an '01 F250 with the 7.3, I will not miss plugging it in at night during cold spells, the 4 gallon oil changes or any of the rest of it. Don't need all that torque 95 percent of the time and I would have to put 300k miles on one to pay for the diesel with fuel savings. I'm happy with my new ride.

I came from a 98 12 valve 5.9l diesel to a 2000 V-10 before switching to a 6.2L. They were all good at pulling 8000 pounds for me, but the 6.2 is quieter and since I drive short distances more than long it made sense.
