1949 F4 Curb weight

Howdy,

I am interested in purchasing a 1949 F4, I will have to tow it and I was wondering if anyone knew the curb weight of the vehicle.

I have looked for a couple of weeks online, but there was very little information I can find specifically for the F4.

It is a dually and has a 10ft bed with a hydrolic lift

Thank you so much,

-Matt

This is about as close as you'll find in a factory document. You'll have to add weight for the ram, and compensate for small variables. Stu

Hope you are able to buy it. The F-4 is my favorite of the bigger models. But if you do, and if it has the stock 18" dual wheels, please read up on the terms "Firestone RH-5°" and "widow maker". Stu

Welcome to the forum. We need pictures. The F4 is the right size truck. Big enough, heavy enough to do some meaningful work yet small enough to be practical.
The listed weights are not that far off. My modified DRW F4 with Ford script stake bed without the stake side racks but with a few tools and a week's worth of clothes scaled at 5180 lbs last year on the way to TS16.

Welcome to the forum! It would be great to have another F4 here. Like Ray said we will need pictures. You might add another 500 lbs to the weight Stu gave you to cover the hoist and lift subframe.

Thank you for all this feed back and I will post pictures if I wind up getting it. In regards to the "widow maker", I used to work in a tire shop and I watched a lot of training videos of people flying across the room and dying from those things. I do appreciate you looking out for me!

There are safer two piece, and safe one piece tubeless replacement options. So the wheels should not be a deal breaker. But you sure can use them as a bargaining tool. A set of 19.5" wheels and 8R19.5" tires will eat the heck out of two grand. Stu

I wound up buying a different truck, I purchased a 1948 F4, and before anyone says anything, I know; Chevy towing a Ford, I'm not proud of that either

Way to go! So you were going to buy a 49 F4 and found a 48 F4! Where do you live that you've got F4's all over the place? What kind of shape was the 49 in? The 48 looks pretty good.

What are your plans for it?

I live in the great state of Oklahoma, but both the F4's were in Kansas, about a 3 and a half hour drive one way.

I found the 49 and it had a few quirks (bullet holes, cracked glass, surface rust everywhere, a few rusted through spots) but all that isn't anything I wasn't willing to fix. What wound up being the deal breaker on that one was transportation, my uncle (who's a trucker) was worried it weighed too much and he backed out of it, which I don't blame him, hauling is his living and I didn't want to tear up his equipment.

I was telling a co-worker my sad story and he asked a bunch of questions. When I went on Craigslist to show him the '49 I saw the '48, every issue that the '49 had the '48 did not have and the asking price was cheaper!!

My plan is for it to look period correct (not going to chop the roof or anything), but I plan on putting in a new (new used) engine, transmission, differential, brakes, etc.

Ultimately this will be a daily driver, I don't have the money to make it a show room car (nor too much of the desire), so I'm going to make it pretty, but not pretty enough to be upset when it gets a little dirty.

I will also fabricate a bed, I may shorten the bed a little for the soul purpose of making it easier to park

I'm not a brick wall and I'm open to suggestions!

Sounds like your plan is about what I did with my F4. It is not all but makes a good driver, geared for the road.
PM if you want component suggestions.
