Trade F150 5.0 for F250 6.0?
In 2015 I traded in my 2011 F350 for a used 2014 F150 5.0. I now really miss having a diesel. If I do get a diesel, I don't want to deal with emissions issues, and I love the way the 6.0s sound. I found a low mileage 2005, 6.0 with just over 100k miles on it that looks to be stock and in mint condition. My F150 has just under 40k miles. So I would going from a 3 year old truck to a 12 year old truck with 60k more miles. I do like my 5.0 but I don't love it. Its only got 1372# for payload and I want to lift it, which would probably only leave me with 1000# after the lift, wheels and tires. It also only has a 13500# gcwr leaving me with 6150# for towing if I max my gvwr. Which is fine because I only tow a 3000# single axle enclosed trailer now, but my wife and I are possibly thinking about getting a camper next summer. And now that my diesel is gone, I just miss it. I know the 6.0s require some work to be reliable, and I wouldn't mind putting in the work to do the must upgrades. My truck also isn't my daily driver, so if it does go down, it can sit until I can afford to fix it. So my question is, does anyone regret getting a 6.0? Do you guys think its worth it to get an older, higher mileage truck??

Bitchy is more like it. To be honest my 05 6.0 engine was stock and rock solid. Just couldn't keep turbos in it. The diesel techs were baffled on why it went through so many turbos. Got so bad that Ford bought it back after 10 years.

No regrets for me. I bought a brand new '08 silverado 4x4. I wasn't really in love with it either. Nice when new, but declined fairly quickly. At around 80,000 miles I traded it in for my current '06 6.0 that had 93,000 miles on it at the time. So I went to an older truck with more miles on it. It was bone stock and still is. I'm at 168,000 now. I don't think my silverado would have made it this far. So yes, I'm glad I made the move. But yes, it's a maintenance hog. Expensive oil changes and finicky. But I love it. I'm hoping my truck will get to at least 200,000 or more before major maintenance/repairs is needed. Just make sure you're getting a solid will maintained truck. My personal opinion is that if it's been modified, I wouldn't buy one. But that's just me. Others here wouldn't hesitate to buy a studded deleted truck. Good luck. This forum is awesome and has helped me numerous times.

I just did something very similar. I sold my 2013 ecoboost F-150 and bought a 2003 F-250. I had a 2007 F-250 extended cab and traded it for the ecoboost so I'd have a crew cab in which to put car seats. The ecoboost was a great truck. I liked it, but I couldn't love it. I knew a guy selling a crew cab 2003 F-250 6.0 with 151,000 miles and I jumped all over it. I went back 10 years and 120,000 miles and I Love my truck again. With that being said it's not my daily driver and I don't have a truck payment. It needs a little work, but it's a solid platform to work from. If you truly are a 6.0 fan it's like your newborn child: you love it even when it s#its down your shirt.

Thanks guys for the insight. Unfortunately, this truck I'm looking at is a dealership truck. So I'm guessing they have no idea about the previous maintenance. I'm a little far away so we shall see if the truck sticks around long enough for me to go see it in person. If it does, any thing should I look for? I've been looking up on the 6.0s and plan on doing the dummy plugs, standpipes, stc fittings and blue spring mod first thing.
And now I start sweet talking my wife to let me get a different truck...
