Sliding Rear Glass Replacement - Need Help

Had the rear glass (the piece that slides - motorized) broken out last night. Went to the dealer and they suggested that I use Safelite because it would be cheaper to fix and that they couldn't get me in for over a week.

Called Safelite and they, of course, said that they will only do a full replacement of the entire back windshield (including the sliding piece). Quote was just under $700.

Looking at Ford Parts - Only able to find what looks to also be a full replacement (Part No. 422B30 - Sliding Window Set) which is priced at $800.

Gotta be a better option than replacing the entire back windshield - Any recommendations?

My dad had the same issue and they had to replace the whole back glass as well. I also told him to fight that as I dont understand why they cant just do the sliding rear window.

If available I would search for more auto glass companies.

don't waste your time w/ Binswanger Glass they can't get anything in less than 4 or 5 days.

If you're in the houston area you might try Juan's Auto Glass - 2798 W Mt Houston Rd

Located in Dallas - Called one other guy here locally and he said the same thing. Have to replace the entire back windshield. Doesn't make any sense but looks like I may have to bite the bullet.

Does your insurance not cover glass breakage? You might want to check into that. Mine covers it as a structural and it is free replacement. I even got the rear window of my full size bronco replaced under insurance.

In the old slider (my '06) I think you can replace just the slider. I recently had to replace the whole motor/cable assembly...... what a PITA.

On my upcoming order I would like to do without. The only good thing about them is being able to let some heat out the cab.

But recently....... I found another use:

Sorry about the quality/glare.... I just had an instant to take this. That molding was run all the way to the dash & front wind shield.

Is there a way to get the rear seat on the driver side to fold down (similar to the way the rear seat on the passenger side comes down)???

Search for a thread called "What I learned about stuff behind the KR CC back seat". It will tell you more than you want to know.

Or try this, it's my first attempt to pose a thread link back in, might not work: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...back-seat.html

Check cost to take your Comprehensive deductible down to $0....usually minimal increase in premium....think it was $16/every six months for me and that covers 4 vehicles. Insurance generally doesn't ding you (pun intended) for glass replacements as long as you're not making multiple claims/year.

Demanding you buy the entire rear glass is just a simple way to make money, no different than forcing you to buy the entire new Platinum or King Ranch applique instead of just selling replacement clips.
