Runs rough when wet or damp.

Hi guys,

I am the original owner of 2002 V10 Excursion. 87k miles to date.

This is the first engine problem.

When wet or damp runs like crap. Stalls and only wants to get going once the rpms get over 2k.

Once warmed up runs good.

Runs good on hot sunny days.

Any thoughts on what may be the problem? and how to fix it?

I would check to see if there are pending codes after this happens.

The plug boots are most likely wet, or you have a cracked COP or some other issue with the ignition system.

First, do plugs, if you haven't done them recently. Replace all the boots/springs.

If you've never done the plugs, you're going to find a bunch of dirt and crud in the holes.

You may not get any codes for intermittent misfires like you are experiencing.
You need a test tool that can read data from the PCM about misfires.
It does seem like you're probably due for a new set of boots/springs.
When you replace them look for rusty springs or unusual marks on the boots from arcing.
If the plugs are original you might want to check the torque on them to be sure one is not working loose which could eventually blow out.

Hi guys

Thanks for the advise. I replaced the original spark plugs and coil springs & boots. I'd say I got my life out of the. 15 years and 88K miles. Yeah, they were the most worn out spark plugs I'd every seen.

2 had oil leaking into them from the valve covers. I didn't have time to change this cover.

Runs like a champ now. I also cleaned the throttle body.

Thanks all
