7.5 Cali MAF questions

I am in the market for a MAF setup for my 96 truck.

I am pretty sure I found what I need from a local guy for $300

The only problem I am seeing is, it is a Auto truck. So I will need a Stick ECM

Anything that I should make sure I should get for a full MAF swap?

here is the list of the stuff I would be getting

-cab harness,
-the under the hood harness
-motor harness with motor(dont need engine)
- ecm for E4od auto trans
- y pipe with o2 seniors
- air box with maf sensor.

That is a bigger problem than you think because there are no manual truck PCMs with MAF.. for any motor.

Are you saying there was never any 96/97 460 cali truck made?

With a manual trans? That would be OBD2 MAF with a manual trans.. a solid gold unicorn if it does exist.

I have seen quite a few cab-n-chassi trucks with cali emissions and 5 speeds

Really? Well it wasn't long ago we were swearing up and down that there was no such thing as a MAF 460 so I guess we can never say never with these old Fords.

I think going to a cali 460 conversion may not be the best route, I've never seen one in person but I believe they have a modern (at the time) crank trigger that will require modification with adapters and a crank wheel, or a matching 460 engine to the cali obd2 setup to either rob parts from (front cover, crank sensor [possibly a crankshaft]) or swap altogether. You could veetainly tune the crank trigger out (or the automagic controls to allow code free manual shifting) but then why bother getting the 460 computer in the first place if youre going to tune it anyway?

On top of that, there's finding a manual transmission computer, which may be near impossible whether they made them or not.

I think you should explore using a tunable maf source from another archetype and calibrate it for the 460. Your 460 will benefit from a tune anyway, even with a 460 computer, so it's worth looking into as an alternative.

NONE of the aftermarket kits offer a manual trans ecm

You'd source a factory 5.0 or 5.8 computer, or tune 460 computer to eliminate the auto control.

Well, I found about 4 different manual ECMs for the MAF 460. So that is solved.

The timing cover has bosses built into it to hold the crank trigger, So I am getting that too. Also the EGR system is a little different on the MAF trucks too, so I will be getting that and the plenum as well

This is going to be an interesting project. When it comes together it's going to compliment your supercharger. I assume this is for the white and blue one in your photo.

This is for a supercharged truck? Just make sure you don't overpay for a computer at that point, any obd2 computer will do (if you want obd2) if you're tuning it anyway, might actually save you some hassle not having to deal with the crank trigger. IIRC, the crank trigger on that model has nothing to do with running, but is a misfire sensor.

if it was cheap, F it I guess.

Is $450 cheap enough for ..
- 5 speed ECM
- Engine harness
- Air box with piping
- Emissions sensor harness (normally comes with engine harness)
- Underhood main harness
- Dash harness
- Flywheel spacer with crank trigger, and crank sensor
- DPFE egr system
- Intake/Plenum
- Y-pipe

Go get em B-Rad.

And for all the naysayers,

F6TF-12A650-AFA, AFB, AFC, AFD.

All are California emissions 7.5l OBD2 MAF computers for manual transmission trucks.
