Project Dentside Diesel

I've always loved my Dentside Fords, taken home from the hospital in my dad's '77 F-150,
1st vehicle was a '79 F-250, ect.... but never cared for the carb's or motors for that fact.
Got married , wife's grandfather had a few cummins truck
picked up a '92 12v o.d. auto LE extended cab 2wd 3/4 ton when he ran it off the road a few years back
90,000+ miles later still loving the torque and reliability

Jan 1st a drunk hit the front of my cummins
2 weeks later a friend of my called and asked if I wanted his '78 F-250
(I've managed to track down and pry every last ford out of all my friends trucks over the years)
Got the insurance check, cashed it and headed up to grab the truck

Dawned on me to combine what I've got to get what I really wanted out of a truck
The great style of the Ford and the power/economy/reliability of the cummins

So here we go
Starting disassembling the Dodge (let me know if anyone needs anything)

and going into this

For now it's going to be a function over form build
need to get both trucks apart and one back and running before winter
I've got an unheated garage but it's pretty well packed soooo

Looking to put the 12v 518 into the Ford on the Ford NP205 T-case
Get it up and running work the bugs out over winter and do the pretty stuff in the spring

Still miss my 2nd truck
15" lift and 44's , not bad for a 17 year old

So tell me I didn't just do something stupid tearing apart one and ready for 2 good running trucks

Got some new toys
Advance Adapters nv-4500 to ford np 205 kit
Very nice kit ! was going to make my own but figured I have enough to do for now
Gotta love that beefy spud shaft

notch in the rear of the tailhousing to clear the t-case shift forks

mock-up to np205 t-case to check fitment
needed to trim almost .200" off so I cut the shaft down .250" for good clearance

all better now

Sorry haven't been on in awhile
tilted up a few degrees , little over the dia. of one bolts

Here's a pic of new motor mounts
Got them from a dragracing buddy of mine of @ Welcome to Poly Bushings.com

Look pretty stout, should do the trick
these are from his 2nd batch
He thought the 1st were a little harsh
Got some other bushings misc. use...

Took a break to finish up some stuff on the garage
I've been running an extension cord out for a few year and figured it's do time
Picked up a used 200amp panel, meter base and weather head from a jobsite teardown
So I only had less then $100 in wire/clamps/ground rods
I thought that having lights on a switch was cool till I fired up the air compressor !!!

80 gallon 5hp 2-stage snap-on compressor I traded for some repair work at a garage
It's got some hours on it but for home use it'll work great

Finally getting my nuts and bolts racks all organized (looks like I'll never need to buy zip ties or hoses clamps again, man I've got them laying everywhere)
Pays to clean up the garage every once in awhile

all this in time to find out I've got no work at work (machine shop), so if anyone needs anything let me know

To bad you aren't close, cause I would love to have the back half of the truck to make a box trailer out of. Nice looking truck for that engine though.

This is a great thread !!! The damage on the Dodge doesn't look so bad, but it's good you are putting the Cummins in something that looks a whole lot better than that ugly Dodge IMO lol. You are the first one I've ever seen doing a Cummins swap and using an automatic transmission.

I know your too far away for me to asks for the leftovers of the dodge, but you should make a truck trailer out of it for yourself. That style dodge truck is one of the most heavy duty trucks there was, which sucks to drive, but makes it great for holding weight. It should hold about 5000lbs with good tires.
