If the front diff has a leak it would show up at the end of the axle tube before your u-joints for that axle. Maybe the dealer called it a leak and they meant vacuum and you thought liquid. There is a seal to keep the diff fluid in where the axle tube meet the diff but the diff oil or fluid is the only liquid in the front axle assembly. And yes if you have ESOF then the front hubs lock and unlock by vacuum.
Ok so I just figured out that the manual shift 4X4 transfer cases have different type of AUTO locking hubs.
Well there this guy "59dumper" with the thread " auto locking hub issue" that is having trouble with his 4X4 AUTO locking hubs, that do not work with a vaccum system, with his manual shift 4X4. I told him I would try to get him some help.
Manual shift transfer case does not have auto locking hubs. The end of the hub will say locked and unlocked ( or free). The ESOF ( **** on the dash ) is the only one that says auto and locked and vacuum locks and unlocks the 4x4 hub.

Yeah that was the way I was thinking, I guess I better let him know.
I'd suggest asking the service tech to clarify what they meant by "beginning to leak a little".

I know from experience that when the rear axle seals leak,it damages rear brake pads & parking brake pads. Is this also true with the front 4X4 hub seals?
Anybody got any thoughts on actually cleaning/rebuilding my front auto locking hubs on my 2000 f250 (7.3l 362,000mls). cant afford the 300.00ea to replace. any links or diagrams?
If you can visually see fluid/grease exiting the seal between the locking hub "cab" and the hub than it is hub grease that has thinned out from age, heat or moisture that has entered the hub. You typically see splatter along the inside of the wheel from rotation.
