I was just wondering if the changes mentioned in the Ford brochure "What's New for "04" are being made now, or are they still making '03 style engines.
Okay, does the current production run use the C95 fuel injectors as opposed to C94s? Any other differences of note in the current production run (like diffrent ICP)?
Joe do you have any idea when the '04s with the modifications will be released and when we might see them in our trucks?
I have already ordered a truck due at my dealer on 7-28 and I'm trying to decide if I'm going to buy it or wait for the new engine. If the new one is going to be released with in the next few months I'll probably wait but if it is going to be next year then I'll probably take this one.
This is some good info here.....WHEN IS the official date that Ford will be putting the new, revamped, '04 6.0PSD into the SD trucks? This a question that has me and a buddy of mine totally confused!
I am with you all - my 2004 truck is currently on the Union Pacific train heading for my dealer, it should be there tomorrow (7.23.03).
Of course we all know that the current 2004 trucks have the older engines in them, and in one of Joe's previous posts he indicated to wait until the modified engines are out.
If anyone can lend insight into when Ford may introduce the modified engines in production this will help all of us make a decision.
Thanks again,
-Roger

We have all heard that the C95 injectors have been used since May. The Flatratech guys say that the way to tell is the electriclal clip faces the valve cover. The C94 clips face the back or front of the engine. I hope Joe can enlighten us on this.
You'll probably get a greatly improved '03 engine except for the issue of the flash, which is out there floating as what it will do.
I know you sounded a little leery at TDS, but we won't know until we get one.
I'm really waiting to see what the incentives are on 8/1. If they're good I might buy one off the lot. If not maybe I'll wait til next year.
Who knows, the '04 engine might not be as good as the post May '03 engine.
This is as official as it gets. The revised production date, as indicated by the Indianapolis Plant Manager for the 2004 engine start up is September 22 and Ford will begin building them into trucks September 29.
The orentation of the clip on the injector plug in does NOT indicate whether you've got C94 or C95 injectors. If the label on your IDM is 4/11/03 or later, you've got C95 injectors beginning with engine serial number 6068453. If you have an earlier serial number but a later date, you've got C95 injectors.
Joe,
I apologize if I've asked this before but do you know if the Sept 29th engines will have the new turbo? This is important to me because I want the 6spd.
Thanks

I was/am not aware that the 2004 engines were getting a new turbo. What is new about it? There is a new turbo bracket that is supposed to adress the "drone" issue but, as far as I know the turbos are the same (they look the same on the pre-production engines).

Real quick 3 additional turbine blades were added giving it a total of 13. Appearently this is to help with low rpm boost.
The output was modified to help lower turbine whine.

Emil:
I checked one of the preproduction 2004 engines last night and it DOES have a different part number on the turbo, so you are probably correct in that the 2004 will have a new turbo but I don't know what is new about it. It looks the same as the 2003 from the outside.
Joe,
Thanks! The document I referred to mentioned only internal changes so except for a different part number you probably cannot see a difference from the outside.
Now the hardest part will be waiting till Sept 29th to order one!
Emil
