Never, ever put blocks in the front. Unless you don't value your life, then by all means, go ahead.
If all you're looking for is 2" an add-a-leaf should do the trick in the front and you can use blocks in the rear. With that little of a lift you shouldn't have any other issues.
so if i go for the 78/9 steering box i will also need the 78/79 pitman arm? is there alot of custom modifications that i need to do this upgrade or is it fairly straigh forward? where would the best place be to find a 78/9 box and arm?
You will need an arm that fits your box. Chances are that you may find a box from a salvage yard and those chances are pretty good that the box will have an arm on it already. Most folks dont take pitman arm pullers to the salvage yard. This means that most boxes will have an arm still attached.
Search for power steering upgrades, and you will find many early truck owners that have made this upgrade. Some have gone all the way and upgraded to crossover, some went the inverted "T" route and others have used the stock configuration. Each works for individual applications but all share the same amount of fabrication.
I fabricate and things come fairly easy to me. Unfortunately what comes easy to me may be a chore for others.
In order to upgrade to this box one will have to be able to weld at a minimum.
you seem to be the go to guy as far as lifts. i got a 79 f-250 stock. could i get away with 2" blocks in the front and back with no drive shaft problems, or any other issues???
The majority seems to agree that most driveshafts are safe up to 6 inches of lift, so the small lift that you are looking for will be fine.
Please take the above advice and consider another method of lift for the front. Blocks can be dangerous up front and are not very popular.
