Progress on this old monster... (pictures!)

Thought I'd let everybody see the progress I'm making on this old truck, it looks pretty good now; but needs a hell of a lot of work yet... I'm trying to keep this trucks appearance appropriate for 1981, let me know what you think and look at the pictures in my gallery to see the horrible condition it was in when I bought it (at $800 I got robbed, and I knew it too was the sad part, haha)...

Bug guard needs a little adjusting yet, damn bumper is bent... Notice the CB antennas mounted on the mirrors...

Had to rip the rubber floor and the insulation out, it was wet, smelled, and would have rotted out the floor... So far that carpet is working out nicely. On a brighter day you can notice the flag from the winshield, looks nice.

Thanks to everybody who helped me change out this steering wheel, looks so much better than that aftermarket thing...

I needed something with high sides, this truck became just that. "Same nightmare different day" the flash didn't do that justice... And thats plastic fake diamond plating, but it covers the rust... haha.

Well, I think it looks like an alright work truck, mechanically, thats another story. Needs new kingpins, I think on both sides (to the point where I need new front tires)... Needs new alternator. Carb needs cleaning/rebuilding/replacing. Probably needs new plug wires, spark plugs, (and does this truck have plants?). Master cylinder leaks (probably will need new brake lines too). Rear gas tank is locked (with no keys), and probably has been for about ten years (damn motorcraft locking gas tanks)...

the list could go on, but I think I'll just stop... Just curious to see if people think I'm wasting my time, or if it looks like a manageable project afterall... Thanks to everyone who has helped me this far.

Thumbs up

Looks like it's coming along nicely. I like that you replaced the 81 grille with the 83-86 grille. I've always preferred that one.

if you want to keep it 81 correct, you should swap the grill, bed , tailgate

I'm not trying to argue with you, but I think there are probably worse things I could do with the american flag than use it as a seat cover... Its real, and to be honest, I don't really see the big deal; theres about a dozen u-haul trucks around here that do the same thing...

As far as everybody else who went after me on having 82 parts, thats not exactly what I meant when I said 81 correct; mostly I just meant I was trying to avoid parts that made it look like it was a 30 year old truck with 1 year old modifications on it...

Always enjoy the comments though...

I don't want to get in the middle of a war either but I don't think it is all that bad either. If it wasn't a "Real" American flag what would it be? An American Flag bed sheet? The OP is showing his flag off everyday, it's a constant reminder of it's meaning and he's showing his patriotism. How is it different than on a pole in the stake pocket of his bed getting completely destroyed by 60mph wind?

There are certain things that should never be done with an American Flag such as flying it at night without a light on it. Plenty of people do it, but that doesn't make it right and it's disrespectful.

I personally am offended by you sitting on the flag and using it as a seat cover.

The flag is a representation of this country and what it's been through and a symbol of our freedom. I'm sure the soldiers in Iraq or Afghanistan would NOT appreciate you using it the way you are..........

I find it very offensive. My entire family and most of my friends are veterans. It does not matter who else is doing it, common intelligence would know it is disrespectful.

I hope this offends you so that you can go wherever and tell everyone how you were treated badly here for what you have done. You will not get much respect from any other American. I GUARANTEE!

I just noticed the flag.. You might as well use it as a floor mat! My god. If you had it in the back window, for all to see that would be fine. But sitting on it?

Just so you know. I and I hope every one on this site will ignore you when you post a quetion, for you discrasing the flag like that

I'm not, but I guess that's because I agree with the majority; there are certain
things that should never be done to an American flag, and my values and the way
I was brought up tell me that sitting on it is NOT one of them.

But, if it turns into bad rep points, well, so be it, I don't really care....

I was not going to post this before but, you may as well hang a commie flag in the back window and keep a muslim prayer blanket behind the seat to praise allah.

I understand that you are young and that you were not reared by a village, but a little American pride would do everybody some good.

GOT American PRIDE?

Sell the truck for scrap and buy a chevy.
