Thumbs up Photos! Coke cleans rust off chrome!

Well after reading all about it here and out on the web, I couldnt resist any longer and had to give the coke method a try.

As i'm sure you've all read, the process is simple: wad up aluminum foil into a ball, dip it in coke, scrub rust off your chrome. Well for anyone wondering if it actually works, I'm here to tell you it does!

I got these results today in about 20 minutes. Hope this is helpful!

I'm amazed. And on top of that I wonder, in the back of my feeble little mind, about drinking coke any longer...lol.

Must be the phosphoric acid in the Coke. Keep us posted if it comes back or not!

Mythbusters did that a couple of years ago....also tested other things that Coke, um er "Cola" would do.

That looks great. Wadded up tin foil and vinegar also does a good job.

And yes, the rust will come back. Once it starts eating thru the chrome, there's not much to stop it. Just make sure you keep some sort of polish/wax on it. I found that the Blue Magic in the paste form (toothpaste tube type) lasts the longest. It has silicone in it.

i cant believe how well it worked to be honest. I'd seen a couple of people mention that Mythbusters had done a segment on it but I couldnt find it. So I decided to test for myself. I definitely figured i'd need to seal it somehow to help the rust-free finish last. Thanks for the tip on Blue Magic carlene. I'll pick some up today.

It makes me laugh now to look at my faded little beater with her shiny, shiny chrome. You gotta start somewhere though right?

You can do the same thing with the wadded up foil and plain water. Learned that trick from a guy who owned a Moto Guzzi shop years ago. Did wonders on a set of old rusted pipes . It seems to be the abrasive quality of teh foil that knocks off the rust and the liquid lubricates it to prevent scratching

I thought the guy was nuts when he told me, but the pipes were shot, so I gave it a go, and sure enough, it worked.

for those of you that are wondering what coke is doing to your insides, go out and buy a cheap pork chop.. and a bottle of dope (thats what my grandpa called coke) stick your pork chop in a bowl of some sort, and marinate with the coke... from what my grandma was telling me, it will desolve the pork chop

Of course, when you consider that the stuff your digestive system produces on it's own will dissolve the same thing to near liquid in a matter of hours, that coke really isn't that harsh.
