So.... I'm thinking that I have the cross flow problem and the front tank is leaking out all the gas that flows over to it. I smell gas everytime I get out of the truck, but never see any gas on the ground or wet spots on the tanks. I want to plug the lines to the front tank. Is this something simple to do?
I ran both KOEO and KOER and there were no codes stored. Recent tune up (motorcraft coppers, wires, cap, rotor, new bosch O2). Plus it has the K&N FIPK on it.
Im hoping that the tank is leaking anyways because I don't know what else to do with this motor and its 5.5-6 mpgs.
I bet this has been your big problem all along. Disconnect the lines from the tank and find a couple studs that are the right size, cut off the threads and grind down the edge smooth. When you're done you should have something that looks like this below, worked great on my truck. BTW... that's one of the actual plugs I made for my truck, the fitting on the left is a fuel line fitting but it's not what the one on the tank looks like. On the tank fitting there is a fork like clip that will sit behind the hex of the stud and prevent it from being pushed out.
So get a bolt that is the right size to fit inside of the fuel lines? (are there two?) Like a bolt with threads on both ends? and cut one side off to where the fork like clip will hold it in there?
Also, how would you check if the MAP sensor is working properly. because I dont know if the one I put on from the junkyard is working correctly or not. A new one is $60...
Would the front tank for a '94 F250 fit on my '89? and how hard are these to change, because I have a new tank in box for my dads 94 and wanted to see if it would fit onto my truck, no problem. He wont need it for his because he blew the E4OD in that thing for the 2nd time.
can you replace the fuel selector mounted on the frame rail? I bet if you went to the junkyard and pulled one it would have the opposite problem and only be stuck in one position
Gas tank replacement is easy to do. You will need the special fuel line disconnect tool and remember to release the residual fuel pressure in the line.
I just did both the front and rear tanks on my 95 F250.

Newbie question here... how exactly do you relieve the fuel pressure?
I went to the Schroader valve on the fuel injection rail and pushed it in until no more fuel came out. Put a rag underneith to catch whatever fuel (minimal) comes out. Wear safety glasses too. Fuel in the eye smarts (ask me how I know).
The safer way is too pry up the button on the inertia switch and then start the truck. It will run for a few seconds and then die. Then you crank it a few times. That bleeds the last of the pressure out of the system.
