How bout for more storage put in a small ammo can under the hood on the passenger side inner fender where a second battery would go. This only woks if you dont have anything right there (battery, wirin).

Back when my dad owned this truck, he took one of them steel, green military ammo boxes and bolted it on the driver side under the hood between the radiator support and the wheel jack bracket.
I'm thinking about replacing it with a wider version of the same type of ammo box.

This is a temperary emergency situation fix on a clogged fuel filter. We did this on my Dad's 75 F100 360 on the road. Disconnect the fuel filter and use a screwdrive to punch a hole through the element center, this lets the fuel flow unobstructed. It will get you down the road to the next exit to a parts store like we did.
with that being said, I Just read in a hot rod magazine that when installing machined heads onto your block, put shaving cream into the water jacket holes. That way if any metal debris was in there, it is somewhat prevented from being let loose into your cylinder heads during installation. The Shaving cream dissolves harmlessly when water is ran through it too.
You can get a build sheet directly from Ford. The website address that shows up in old forum searches doesn't work anymore, but you can just call. It's an easy process, but very slow:
Have your VIN number ready and call 1 (800) 392-3673.
English: 1
Other inquiries: 5
Other inquiries: 2
Ask the nice person for a build sheet. They won't know what you are talking about. Explain politely. They will then find the appropriate part of their phone script and tell you they have to forward your info to the research department. Provide your VIN number and personal info (Name, phone, address) when asked. Try not to laugh too hard when they ask you if rather than restoring that old truck you wouldn't prefer to hear about attractive financing terms for brand new 2009 vehicles. Say no thank you and hang up.
(Wait two weeks)
Receive phone call from Ford. "We have received your build sheet request and submitted your VIN number for processing. It will be mailed to your home address in 4-6 weeks."
(Wait 4-6 weeks, posting to ford-trucks.com to pass the time).
...I'll update this post if/when the build sheet arrives.
OMG,
__where did you get the "build sheet" info?
(Feel like such a Noob right now.)
I was unaware that one can reqest the build sheet info on there own truck. I thought you could only get it if you were lucky to find it with the truck.
The rear bumper off of a late 80's and early 90's dodge trucks (pre 93) are a great fit for 73-79 fords. You have to make a couple of brakets and drill 2 holes in your frame, but its well worth it.
