I hope you weren't needing a serious answer first thing tonight. I just picked myself up off the floor after reading all of the HELP that you were given.

I am sure that all involved are also courious as I am now. I am going out in 30 degree weather to see if my X has a reproductive organ too.

If it was a reproductive organ, it would have shriveled up with as cold as it is here today.

Who needs a serious answer when you have great entertainment?

If it was a reprouctive organ, I don't think it would shrivel up in this little wimpy cold. We're talking BIG TRUCK MANLY STEEL here, not a couple of sissy brass parts!!! It even has the necessary rubber parts for safety in use.

I dunno, but If I had to guess, I'd say some sort of vibration dampener....

Its a shot in the dark, but my guess is that it is a dampener tuned to a certain weight to mitigate vibrations caused by drivelines, engine, etc...

But personally, I prefer the idea that is a counterweight to prevent rollovers

Better buy your truck dinner before you go yanking on that thing... Don't worry though, we'll all respect you in the morning anyway. Just make sure you get pictures!

Yes, it's a vibration dampener. I have one in about the same place on my Thunderbird. however, it could also be used for a possum scoop. This is one of most entertaining threads I've read in a loooong time.

Its what makes time travel possible. Get her on up to 88 MPH and look above and behind the passenger seat and under the truck to see if any lights are flashing.

Housedad is correct. It is eather a vibrations dampener or a harmonic dampener. There must have been a vibration or noise that Ford wanted to eliminate. Either way, keep them on.

I always wondered why it was necessary that my two alternators make 1.1 gigawatts of electricity, I've never had it over 88 mph but theres a weird light comming from under the truck when I get close.
