Hey guys was reading all the great post and wanted to join in .I like to start by saying I think its great that poeple get together and help each other out. I was a toyota tech for out 8 years then change career. So was not a big fan of america cars and trucks. I always brought japaness caues of troublefree and they were a lot easier to work on to me. I own 95 and 2000 pathfinders right now. Both are great trucks but not enough room or towing power. I'm looking 2000-2003 X with around 85000 miles .I need help with going from jap to america
i would think price would factor in. I myself am picking up a 2000 X limited diesel 4x4 with 96k, but it has all the service records. for the price I don't feel I can beat it. (little under 18k, very very clean, private party)
Not looking for one with highy miles but the ones that I looked at were around 85000. IF u know of one with lower miles around $15000 in NY area let me know

If you really want something with pull, get a 7.3 diesel Excursion. I can run as fast as is safe up a mountain pass with my 31' TT in tow. They cost a bit more but you can see 300-500k from these motors if properly maintained. If you bought a PSD with 80-100k, it's just getting broken in. I love my Diesel!

I was going to say the same thing, and that's from a gasser
Depends on what you're going to be towing - what ARE you going to tow with it?
I would NOT be afraid of any 7.3l PSD with 85,000 miles on it, as long as it's got good service records....hey, it ain't even got it's "baby teeth" at that point...
As to towing, I've towed a few 30 ft trailers for people and one 36ft'r with no problem on level highway....the truck is rated for 11,000 lbs
However, just bought my own 33ft trailer and am upgrading to a Banks System w/ the exhaust brake for that extra umph and stopping power in the mountains. It's due for rotors, and shocks so I'm going Powerslot rotors/Hawk Pads and Bilstein shocks, as well as upgrading to Hellwig antisway bars.
I don't think miles affect the X at all. My V10 has over 167,000 miles and with a few glitches, is still running strong. Still pulls a 4 place sled trailer and a 4 place horse trailer, all the way to the UP of Mi and back.
Thinks guys I'm looking to pull a 4 place jet ski trailer, gear and the family. Looking for two things enough pull and trouble free days. Was looking at gas models whats a good motor and the best fuel economy for my needs
The best engines (properly maintained) are the V10 or the 7.3. Hands down. Any V10 or Diesel owner will tell you that their truck will pull a load and won't even come close to breaking a sweat. (I know because I own one ) That's because these engines were designed to do one thing and one thing alone: WORK! They work but, at the same time, they're fuel efficient (for an engine that size). The diesel will give you the best fuel mileage in addition to expandability. Simply put, the PSD has plenty of room to go as far as power and general modding is concerned. The V10 is also relatively fuel efficient for an engine it's size. Many of us remember the old days when you'd have a big block V8 that could tow, but you'd have to stop often for gas. With the V10, you get above respectable mileage while towing. There is room for modding, but you won't get as much out of it as you would a diesel. Whatever your preferences, with proper maintenance and love, either engine will get the job done.
If anyone found this informative, please add to my reputation in the upper right hand corner.

"Toreador," You are DEFINATELY right on the money...excepting that I would own NOTHING other than the diesel. I think the prospects of longevity factor (with proper maintanence, of course) outweigh the extra upfront cost of ownership.
As well, the availability and functionality of various modifications only serve to add to the brute force of the diesel...all though I don't know this for a fact...I will soon, once my diesel shop installs all of the Banks System upgrades I ordered today
