I cant find the thread someone posted some time back about Mobil changing their syn ATF.
I went to the parts store to pick some up and the bottle looks close to the same, but the new bottle states it meets both Mercon & Mercon V along with Dexron III/ IIE. My spare bottle only states Mercon, & Dexron III/ IIE, but nothing about Mecron V is the new bottle the same stuff?
Ford says not to use Mercon V or the combination fluid which matchs both Mercon and Mercon V. Read your owners manual; it is pretty plain. If nothing else, it could threaten your warranty; don't know what it might do, if anything, to the tranny.

PS: I've found that even Ford Techs get confused about the proper tranny fluids and the Radiator fluids, and there are big debates on the forums in these subjects. I cannot for the life of me understand why people 1: Insist on ignoring their owner manual, and 2: Challenging the engineers who developed the machinery and specify the proper fluids.

Reason: add PS
one thing i would look at is Amsoil TorqueDrive. unlike most of their other fluids, it is ONLY rated for Mercon/DexronIII, and not MerconV. i bought 5 gallons (2x 2.5gal jugs) off of my buddy who is an amsoil dealer. this stuff is great!!! before my tranny would shift very harsh when the TC was locked (but the TC override switch was off) and the change from Motorcraft to Amsoil was like a night and day difference. i flushed my system out, 19 quarts. i have one left over. i also added an inline filter that is a magnet and will pull 99.97% of fine metal particles out of the fluid. i have some pics of it if you'd like.
Thanks for the info Strokin, I guess here is what I'm looking for I flushed my tranny about 15K so I'm good for a while. I need to flush my power steering pump & change out my transfer case.
Do I need to use a Mercon syn atf for my PS pump & tranfer case, or can I use the new Mobil syn stuff rated for all? and I was hoping to use Mobil and this way I could carry one bottle as a spare for all 3 incase I needed to top them off.
For my next tranny flush I'm going to look at the Amsoil stuff.
I'm considering doing a tranny flush. After just installing a BTS valve body and an external trans filter, I figured it would be a good idea to start with some fresh fluid. I like the Amsoil that strokin was talking about.
Here's my question. What is the best way to completely flush the transmission. I know some of the quick change shops have a machine that does it, but I will not take my PSD to the quick lube.
Its starting to sound like we wont be able to use Mobil 1 anymore.. Thats really going to SUCK,, i am close to needing to change my tranny fluid and going to have to find some new fluid now... I am not an amsoil fan so i will have to find something else, sure want a synthetic also..
