Bought our truck today, and the experience thoroughly sucked!
We gave the Build Sheet to the salesman and he drug us around the lot for 90 minutes showing us trucks we didn't want. We want 3/4 XLT and he's showing us 1 ton King Ranch dually crew cabs. Finally after refusing to test drive anything and repeatedly telling him we didn't want anything in stock he let us order the truck we want. Here's what we decided on:
2006 F-250 XLT Super Cab Shortbed 4x4
True Blue Clearcoat Metallic
Medium Flint Interior
6.0 Diesel
5 speed autu
3.73 Limited Slip
Payload Package 1C
17" Forged Aluminum Polished wheels
BF Goodrich All Terrain tires
Captains chairs with console
Power seats
Premium 6 disc stereo
Advanced Security Group
Chrome Package
FX4 Off-Road Package
Heavy Service Suspension Package
Tow Command
Dual Alternators
4x4 Electronic Shift On The Fly
Fog Lamps
Privacy Glass
Manual Sliding Rear Window
Reverse Vehicle Aid Sensor
Roof Clearance Lights
12.5K Reciever Hitch
Adjustable Gas Brake Pedals
All Weather Floor Mats
Upfitter Switches
The MSRP on the truck came to $45,050 The adjusted price was $42,550.
Put on your hip waders folks cuz this is where the bull**** gets deep. First he told us he'd have to sell it at MSRP since it was a special order. Thanks to the excellent info I got on this site I knew that was BS and I told him so. Then he asked me what I was thinking on price and I wrote $30,500 on a sheet of paper and handed it to him. Sure I lowballed him but I was out to get a deal, time to hunker down. He came back and told me $40,000 even was the best he could do. Fast forward through 2 1/2 hours of this back and forth from me to the sales manager (why don't salesman have the authority to negotiate price?) and we finally settled on a price. $33,500 including TT&L, Rhino Lining over the rail bedliner, and install of the electric steps I bought for my wife. Just shot half a day my wife and I could have spent going to lunch and museums.
This was a great part, negotiating our trade. We have a 95 Ranger 4 speed auto, 4x4 reg cab. By the time we take delivery of our new truck it will have well over 300,000 miles on it. I'm not expecting much but out of principle I asked for $1500 trade in and would settle for $1,000. This was easy, only took an hour and twenty minutes of haggling to get my grand for the Ranger.
Now for the super fun part. Financing. Oh what joy we had. My FICO score is 765 and my wifes is 825. Plus we had $7K cash in hand as a down payment and are homeowners, we should get a good deal right? Yeah, but it'll eat up another 2 hours of your life. After filling out a 5 page credit ap we were kept waiting for 45 minutes before the first offer came back. 60 months at 13.7%. It was at this point we first seriously considered telling them where to stick their "award winning service". I knew damn good and well we had better credit than that. I told to come find me when they had an offer below 5% and that I'd be in the parking lot smoking. Comes back an hour and 15 minutes later bragging about how hard he had to work with the credit we had and the small down payment etc. but he did it for us. I was like, good job ********, heres your cookie. The second offer was 60 months at 4.9%. Good offer but I was pissed and wanted to make him suffer a little bit. Knock a point off and you got a deal. So we signed for 60 months at 3.9%.
All told we got a $45,050 truck for $33,500 including TT&L, Rhino Lining, and electric step install.
Got $1,000 for our Ranger.
60 month financing at 3.9%.
So tell me FTE did we do good armed with the info off this website? Was going through all this BS, embarrassment and aggravation worth it? Can't wait until late January when our new truck gets here. Maybe I was naive but I thought we'd be out of the dealership by noon so we could enjoy an afternoon in Dallas. As it was we had enough time for a nice dinner before we decided to head home.
Closing thoughts: I'd better get another 10 years out of this truck because I do not want to repeat the new vehicle purchasing process anytime soon. Despite many years of sobriety and AA this deal made me want to drink again. Buying new vehicles sucks. I wonder what kind of BS I'll get when I go to pick it up?

MSRP $45050 check
Invoice $39613
Rebate $ 2500
net $37113
Now, does the trade in and the $7000 down come off of that? And how much of the price was TT&L? Can't make any sense of the numbers as they stand.
I'm also hoping you don't regret the HD Service package- that darned thing will knock your teeth fillings out, and unless you've got that thing loaded to the max (as in, in the bed, not towing), there's no reason for the rough ride. It does not increase your trailering capacity one iota.
Ditto the dual alternator setup- look under the hood of a PSD that's got it- it's jam packed without the 2nd alternator buried in there. A HD alternator might be a shot though.
Finally- I'd add the $35 engine block heater, just for the off-chance that you might have the truck somewhere cold over the years and miles you own it. Cheap upgrade- very expensive to retro-fit.
Sounds like a nice truck- you'll love it!
Now - the scary part. We did this the Sat before 4th July. So, naturally, they're not open on the following Monday. "We'll have it ready on Tuesday, call before you come up" (15 min trip). Called Tuesday aternoon, and was told rather forcefully "Truck isn't here, pick it up Wed, call before you come up" OK, I can live with that. Wed morning, salesman called, "Truck is ready. Oh, by the way, there's a new rebate today - you'll get a check for $1700.00"
When I regained consiousness, we went up that evening, and in another 45 min were paperworked and driving home. If you're in the Northen Maryland/Southern PA area - try them - Miller Brother's in Ellicot city.
As far as the way we configured the truck, it was pretty much a compromise decision. We do some heavy hauling a few times a year, tow my truck to Moab, it's her daily driver, and a wedding gift to ourselves. Right now I have no regrets about the way we configured our truck. I just hope to get many years of reliable service out of it. Now I gotta go shopping for one of those big beefy winch bumpers to hang off the front of this thing, and some lights, and put onboard compressed air in. All for her safety and security of course.
So anybody using Ranch Hand accessories? www.ranchhand.com
I've seen their products around and the price is right. I do have some restrictions from the wife however.
1. I can in no way, shape, or form lift this truck. No lift kits, leveling kits, add a leaves, body lift, or wheels and tires. She already told me that if I do I'm cut off and sleeping on the couch forever. I think she means it.
2. I can't mod the engine or any of the drivetrain. Anything I put on this truck must be bolt on, no welding or cutting allowed.
3. Anything that goes on this truck comes out of my paycheck.
So with that in mind I need some ideas to justify the upfitter switches. I'm think Ramsey Patriot 15,000lb winch, a cool bumper, some lights, tool box in the bed. Just enough so it doesn't get confused with a mall crawler.

Yep, that is the deal of the year. As that stands, the dealer is sitting on a net loss of $2300, after holdback and everything else is taken out, plus Texas TT&L, the liner and labor. I'm guessing that's another $1500-$2000, so he's in the ditch close to $4500 on this deal as it's penciled out. My personal bet is that the desk man cost out a 2WD, but we'll see. I'd sure like to see a follow up on this thread in 6-8 weeks when the truck actually gets delivered.

Gotcha- disregard my comment about the HD Service pkg and the dual alternators. That winch and other electrical add-ons change that picture entirely.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Seriously though, your wife is going to feel like she's died and gone to heaven. As a 5'4" girl whose love of my life was my PSD (see gallery) I can vouch for how happy she will be with the truck you've chosen. I used my truck exactly the way you describe -- a daily commuter and an occasional heavy hauler/tower -- and I loved every minute of it.
Congrats on the good deal and I hope you & your wife enjoy the new truck. I think overall you will come to see the wasted day as well worth your time.

Hey Duc Girl. Nice looking rig you have there, but you say you are 5'4? Either you are all legs, or you must carry a step ladder to get in and out! OOOPS! Upon re reading your post, I see your rig WAS the love of your life....Must a traded?

After Polarbear broke it down. . .I don't see why any dealer would take a $4000 (total loss) on a new truck. That just doesn't make any sense. . .
As far as him taking a dive on the truck I really don't see how thats possible. I checked the paperwork and the truck is configured the way we want it. Also 05's are discounted cheaper than that if we wanted something in stock. I'm sure we cut his profit margin down quite a ways but as far as taking a loss, I don't see that being possible. I see ad's for all kinds of 05 vehicles discounted $12,000+ so why should an 06 be any different? If you want a copy of the paperwork I'll see about mailing it to you.
