I have a 2001 XLT Ranger, 4WD, Automatic, 6 cylinder with only 27K miles. I have noticed at low speeds that when I accelerate, the transmission seems to hesitate (or slip) when going to the next higher gear. It’s not major, but it is noticeable.
I was looking at the warranty book and found that the 3/30K warranty is expired. I found something called the “Turbine Shaft Speed Sensor Assembly” listed in the “Long-Term Defects Warranty” section.
Could this be the cause of the slipping? If so, would this be covered in the warranty?
I purchased the truck in March 2003. It had 19K miles. I did not buy the extended warranty from the dealer.
i had the same problem. the valve body gasket tends to "blow out" around the solenoids. cost me 400 to have fixed. there is a revised gasket for this. if you pull your tranny pan down, you can see the gasket coming apart.
mine was slipping at mid-throttle. there is a tsb out on this, and it seems to be a fairly common problem. they make a revised gasket for this. i changed the tranny fluid/filter at about 40K, and noticed a paper thin gasket starting to fall apart. i had not had any tranny problems, so i just kept an eye on everything. at about 45K, i noticed a slight slipping, and took it to a tranny shop. i told them about a gasket falling apart. they opened a book and pointed to where they usually blow out. they have a tech working for them that used to work for ford and he said he did two or three of these a day!
