Hello all, I recently came into this 51 from a dear friend that passed away. while I would rather have my buddy he left me this 51. It's definitely not original but seems to be in very good shape overall for having been sitting for 25 years. First task will be removing bad paint and covering rust to prevent any further damage then deciding how far I want to go with it. It appears to have either a 289 or 302 with automatic and original suspension. Would like to get ideas for upgrades to plan for. There are no intentions to sell, as this is a retirement project and in memory. The aluminum bed plate will be coming out and more than likely looking at an independent front suspension but I'm open to any and all suggestions. Thanks!
Sorry for the loss of your friend. Looks like a good start, He was proud to leave it to you and it will be a good tribute to him to have it back on the road.
Get it running and drive it, I can tell you from personal experience and a stalled project a running truck is a huge motivator. I ended up buying a second running and driving truck for this reason.
I'm sorry for your loss. Losing a good friend is a hard thing, but gaining a F-1 to refurbish in his memory is like you're still passing the time together. Wishing you all the best on your new project that will keep the memories of your old friend alive.
