Some people should NOT be allowed to work on these ol trucks. I was staying busy taking the ol blue parts truck apart to sell the 4wd frame. And discovered a "IPO", (ignorant previous owner) little gem of a trick. Not just one frame notch, but TWO. At least they left SOME of the vin.....jeesh. And then covered up the rest with some angle iron.
I would guess this truck has has a couple of different motors in it. Like a 460 with car exhaust manifolds, that usually is the cause for the front notch. And who knows what else has been put in it, a 400 is what is believed to be in it now. I am going to grind off the welds on the angle iron to remove it and see what is looks like under there.
I notified the purchaser of the frame, said it did not matter. At least the motor turned over with a breaker bar, yea me. I honestly did not even look at the vin when I bought it. It was a parts truck and did not come with a title anyway, just a bill of sale.
At least the nuts came off the exhaust manifold studs without drama or a smoke wrench. The front body mounts bolt had to be sawzall cut. Motor is almost ready to be pulled, followed by the cab.
I do have them. Just a real pain to get them in. I hope to replace the windshield in the future and I want to use a different style seal.
I know your pain. My windshield used up 3 rubbers last year, two were at a local pro shop ... trying to reuse the bright mylar and 4 corners. Easy to get the mylai in place, but it was getting the corners in when they either tore somewhere, or the just didn't fit well. Then we went to a solid rubber, no trim, perfect fit and seal.
I put the 4 corners in a drawer, was gonna offer them then I saw 77&79F250's pics again.
I feel the pain 77&77. That’s what I found in my 77 notched frame, they also cleaned the rubber off the 460 engine mounts- bolted the plates to the block and then welded the engine plates to the engine mount towers. I couldn’t get an alternator in. Picture is after my repair.
Well...found some extra parts and things do not look to good in there. This ol parts truck is rough shape.
Does any one else wonder it I could put that front axle back there and make it rear steer? Lol
I messed with my door panels some more, just waiting on some material now. I did hand wash it, strange washing it and not catching my wash cloth or my skin on ragged sharp rusty hole edges. Just washing all smooth painted steel and those never will rust stainless steel center hub covers and deep beauty rings. I drank some coffee and had a old movie going too, movie had a group calling them selves "Wolverines".
No pics taken today, it's just a clean white dent side truck. I know I bore y'all with pics anyway.

re: "Rear Steer" mod. ... If ever you do, put a seat and sterning wheel back there too, make it a crew driver. Rear steer operator could even be facing to the rear, to make it really interestink.
So yesterday continued working on the blue parts truck. getting ready to pull the motor and cab. So I....
Removed Z bar set up from bellhousing.
Removed the starter.
Removed all the bolts holding the bellhousing to the engine block.
Got the trans hump cover plate 99% ready to be removed. The PO used some kind of spray undercoating all over the floor. And pretty much sealed all the bolts and screw heads under that stuff. So that was the giant PITA.
Pushed up on one side of the cab and then the other, to see if the body mounts are broke loose. They are, it tilted nicely. If I wanted to, I could almost just push the cab off one side of the truck. But I did not.
Today in between showers, we loaded up in the '77, Wife loves those hand hold assists BTW, hauled some trash by the dumpster station, then went and filled the tank up at $2.849/gal, and as I did so a fellow at the island started talking about the truck, then a lady from the other island started talking about it, she sounded familiar. After I spoke, she called me by name and asked if I remembered her? She sounded familiar, turns out I did know her, but had not seen her in 20 years. The guy knew us both, but neither she nor I could place him. She started talking to my wife as I finished the gas, then I got a real good hug. Never not get a hug y'all. Then my Wife and I took a long way home, got some vittles, it was a nice ride. Come home, did some tweaking on my newest door panel mods, still waiting on material. Truck sure let me know it likes 50 mph on these roads.
