Is there any disadvantage to putting an 05+ intake manifold on an 03? Used units aren't that expensive on ebay and it would be nice to get rid of the "bridge" at the back that makes removal necessary for getting to the HPOP.
I've noticed there are C2 and C3 versions of the newer manifolds. It would be nice to know what the differences are if anyone has that info.
I never looked for C2 or C3. Isn’t the bolt for the cooler at a different location? So then a change to the round EGR cooler and a change to the up pipe?
I picked-up a C3 on ebay for $120 out the door with all the fasteners. It even included the alternator bolts, an old EGR delete adapter, and block-off plate.
It appears that the rear cooler mount is in the same place in relation to the back end, but the coolant inlet is a full inch closer to the front. So yeah, it would mean a change to the square cooler for sure, if you're keeping it stock or doing a stealth delete. I would need a square cooler to determine if an up-pipe is in order.
I don't need to worry about any of that anymore with a full-on delete. I am really looking forward to seeing how much more room I have to get to the ICP and IPR without that stupid bridge in the way. I'm thinking about removing the cooler mounting tab just for more ease of use.
Hey Chris, since you have both parts in hand, I've always wondered when the took the balance tube off the back, is there any difference in the size of the manifold rails. If not and someone wanted to keep the '03 EGR cooler as is, they could cut and TIG the '03 up. It may be the perspective, but in the first picture it almost looks like the '03 is slightly wider, but can't tell if there is a change in height.
Jack what about the internal displacement? I would bet they are the same but you never know until you
fill it up with water and then see how much it holds.

The rails are basically the same size. Between the external ribs being a little different and very low tolerances between rails on the same manifold it's hard to compare them with any exactitude, but all measurements were within 1/16".
I just put the intake in today. Here's a couple of pointers:
1. Don't hook-up the down pipe to the turbo, you'll need to be able to move it to get the rear passengers side bolt in.
2. Cut off the mounting tab for the EGR cooler.

I should have mentioned this...I cut the EGR mounting tab off mine and my rear intake mani bolt is not in mine because I could not get the downpipe to seal any other way.
You can see the tab is gone in this photo This was a couple of years ago when the EGR mounting tab was still intact. It just gets in the way...
I've got all 3 intakes. Both up-pipes and egr coolers kicking around my garage. I'm still running the 03' intake. I always planned on cutting off and tig weld the rear crossover vs replacing up-pipe and cooler, but I end just deal with it and toss intake back on so i can run my welded round cooler only differences on the intakes 2 later is better better even egr flow and minor cosmetic differences in the casting, the Latest intakes were smooth while earlier intakes had a sorta web design on the lower front under elbow. But back before Odawgs were around when it was popular to cut open to port intakes the 03 intake was preferred due to ease of the less complicated egr.
