'78 F150 Project Dilemma

Hi,

Hopefully someone will make an offer or make a good suggestion...

I can no longer afford the insurance for my third vehicle...a 1978 F150. 2WD/302/Canadian born/AC etc.

It now runs and drives very nicely (thanks to the people on this forum) and the bucking has stopped (again thanks to the people on this forum), which was a warped rotor.

This past year I have put in a new carpet, rear and front windshields, battery, front rotors, calipers and shoes and some rubber.

BUT it still needs to be restored. It needs a new drip rail on the driver side. I had a body man weld approx 3-4 panels where rust once was but one still needs to be done. I have a large replacement panel (upper rear wheel center fender). It needs to be sanded, primed and painted. The dash lights are still out, I believe it has the wrong (or faulty) head light switch. I got one from a junk yard and the orig. one went bad and that is when the dash light problem started (a fuse keeps blowing).

I have lost my connections to finish the truck and I don't have a decent garage to put it in to finish it myself.

SO WHAT TO DO, WHAT TO DO.

Do I part it out, junk it, sell it or finish it. It is reliable and runs great but the way it looks (green and white and primer and por-15) it probably wouldn't sell.

Anything guys?

if you part it out you won't make much money and then you have to get rid of the rest which would cost you about 600.00 if you sell it you could ask 1300.00 and take 1000.00 or finish it and have a nice ride which if you then want to sell it could fetch about 4500.00 to 6000.00 you could end up making a nice return on your money by finishing the project all the way through.

antique car insurance is a good idea. a buddy of mine builds old street rods and insures them that way. he said it only costs a couple hundred or so a year also. when my truck becomes the third vehicle i am going to look into the same thing.

Hagerty Insurance is a great idea. In fact I have their pamphlet on my desk. The only problems are the stipulations. It has to be finished and you have to have a garage to put it in. I have a garage but it is filled. If the truck was finished it would be a no brainer. I would keep it in a second. It just ****es me off so much that my connections (cousins) are no longer able to help me. One is a Ford expert and the other has a two car garage with everything from a plasma cutter to a HVLP (or whatever its called) spray system. But all that is unavailable now. My only option is to buzz bomb it in my driveway and than unload it cheap.

If you want to sell it, 2 words: Earl Scheib. Take it there (or any local cheap car paint place) and have them throw a quick paint job on it. Don't bother with any body work, just have them shoot it right over all the warts and all. You should see the couple of hundred dollars back on it in a higher price and/or quicker sale!

I'm already in love it with it. I just don't have an available garage and the fact of being poor isn't helping either.

I looked the other day for a classified section on this forum but didn't find one. I would like to post pics and see if anyone is interested.

My mistake! I never looked at the top right side and top middle. I assumed that was where the commercials ran. Thanks.

antique insurance is a good idea, but then some states only allow 1000 miles a year on those plates though. check into it before you choose.
