Unfortunately, it doesn't change the GVWR, it only decreases the amount he can put in the truck before he hits the limit. My truck, for example, is a crewcab, and it weighs 7200 lbs. I can technically only put 2000 lbs into it before I hit the GVWR. Another truck that is a SuperCab would weigh less, but with the same rating, would be able to add more weight before hitting the GVWR.
