Help me put a price on my X

2001 XLT V10 4x4 119,000 miles on motor, 203,000 mile on rest of vehicle.

White and tan with gray cloth interior.
New tires, fuel pump, all fluids including brake and PS. New gear oil, new TC fluid, transmission flushed, radiator flushed, new oem coils and plugs, exhaust studs new SS, ball joints greased, new IAC, néw fuses, new door lock actuators, new door ajar switches, rear hatch actually locks and unlocks, new ESOF seals, and ESOF works, newish brakes, limited slip rear end with 3.73 gears, 6 cd factory sound system, all switches and lights work, new head lights, new windshield wipers, professionally cleaned.

Everything works and it is a Colorado vehicle with virtually no rust. You can still see manufacturing chalk marks on fuel tank skid plate and original writing on driveshaft is visible. Just surface rust on frame.

Clean title, minor dents and a couple scratches on body....16 yrs old.

What should I ask for it?
I don't know how to price a vehicle with a motor that has 100,000 miles less on it than the body.
Motor runs great and leak down test was better than either of my other 2 excursions. Less than 10% on cold motor.

Please don't inquire as I'm still working on some of the above maintance tasks and it's not for sale yet.

I just want pricing advice as a guy at work will probably buy it.

Yah, I know but it's still got hood off, and has not been cleaned yet.

It's a typical white excursion.

Here is a photos just after I bought it.

I have over $3000 in parts so far and 160 hrs of labor in it.

Remember you don't add value for things like "new ball joints" or your time. However for deficient components you will lose value. Rebuilt transmissions and engines often add value if there is a warranty. Your 3K in parts is worth 1/3 of their cost and your time adds nothing... to a buyer.

Older vehicles like the Excursion are subjectively priced. How it "looks" is probably more important to a buyer then what has been fixed. Mind you this isn't an absolute. Often dings and scratches can be overlooked if the paint is shinny, but older trucks interiors and rust are never overlooked. Since your say it's not rusty then the interior is the litmus test for most buyers.

7K + OR - 1k

Yah, I agree. I have looked at alot of excursions and almost all looked good but with closer inspection I found thousands of dollars of maintaining that needed to be done. Dealers and most private sellers will not address exhaust studs, transmission flushes, rear hatch issues, ESOF issues etc. They just make it pretty and try to sell it letting the buyer deal with the maintenance. I'm just a guy who enjoys working on excursions and want to do all the things that most dealers don't to add some value and make a dependable excursion .

It's probably going to a coworker so I want it to be dependable and right.....he will haul kids in it like I do.

I just want to ask a fair price for both of us.

$7000+/- $1000 seems fair to me.
Not the (-) part though. Maybe if I haven't done so much maintenance I would ask $6K. $500 just in parts for new OEM coils and plugs. Most people just don't realize what it takes to make one of these SUVs dependable. Not to mention the labor and knowledge required.

I can deal with $8K I think but anything lower would prompt me to just keep it.

Sometimes I think I just like these vehicles too much.

OUCH!

Can't imaging buying one of those just to turn around and have to dump another $2 or $3K into doing maintenance.

they were probably diesels, which I avoid like the plague. I know I will be hammered for that comment but V10s are soooo much easier and cheaper to maintain. My sister has a 7.3 in her X and she should be arrested for vehicle abuse.

She just drives it and let's things fall apart. She won't spend the thousands of dollars required to properly maintain it. Glow plugs don't work, fuel filter heater is unplugged because it's shorted out, won't put any lube in fuel to compensate for ultra low sulfur diesel. ......ect.

I wouldn't buy hers if she paid me to take it.

You got me there.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't bashing the 7.3. Although it may sound like it. I was bashing some of the owners that take advantage of the almighty 7.3. Just because you can abuse the 7.3 does not mean you should.

Only to leave the next owner with a huge maintenance bill.

Notice how I said my sister should be arrested for vehicle abuse? Not the abused motor. The reason is the high cost of diesel maintenance. If you buy one know the pros and cons......don't abuse the poor thing and leave others to deal with its issues, is my main point.

That is why I will not buy one. It's not the diesel motor it's the fact that some will not maintain them correctly and huge bills could be in my future if I buy one. Not to mention out here a diesel X come at a premium.....even a Un maintained one is cashy.

On topic, some local searching showed clean and low owner count vehicles with solid interiors and little to no rust (mostly surface) in the $7-8500 range. Most have a lift and some accessories of some sort however, which is more appealing to the Texas crowd for the most part

Last time I looked at an excursion on a dealer lot price tag was $14000.

2005 4x4 V10 with 97,000 miles.

I made a list of issues:
Exhaust studs broken
No radio antenna
ESOF did not work
Rear hatch did not work
Dvd system did not work

I had the service shop work up an estimate.

$1000 for exhaust studs
$200 for antenna
$400 to $1500 for ESOF
$750 to $1500 for hatch
Could not estimate OEM dvd system

Than I asked about trans flush, radiator flush, front and rear diff, transfer case, and PS. Another $1500.

So I offered $9000 for the X, they sold it the next day for asking price $14000.

She was pretty, but she would have been very high maintenance.

I would think they are less expensive in CO (more to choose from).

Where in Wyoming are you?

Cheyenne

On WY CO border basically.

They tend to be more expensive in CO.

This one is a 2005 V10 with 370,000 miles for $10,000!!

He will probably get it sold for that, or close to it. Because it "looks" nice.

Here is a 2000 V10 excursion for $8000

And a 2005 V10 with 115,000 miles For $25,350 !#!!!

Well just got it on the road. It runs good and everything, and I mean everything works. Even switches and **** that had the white faded out were replaced. It beautiful and just had to drive it a little to make sure there were no issues.

Drove it to work for a week and BAM, BAM, BAM!!!

Hail storm hit with marble sized hail. Insurance has said it's a total loss. There trying to figure out what it's worth with all the parts I put on it and new motor.

Hood is messed up, but the $7000 worth of damage to roof is what put it over the edge.

Probably buying it back from insurance company though.....I've put too much work into ot to send it to a salvage auction.

Hood is an easy fix...new one.
Roof will have to stay dimpled, but I don't think the sale I had from co worker will go thru with a dimpled roof.
