Getting the complimentary cup of coffee from the dealership after I dropped the 6.0 off for the 150k service and thermostat replacement. Whimper. Just what happens when you don't have any good place to do the work and it's pouring/blowing like crazy.

Hey Sean, I couldn't find those pictures. (I never have any luck with the galleries). I'd like to see them if you could put them up here.

Thanks

GO SLOW AND EASY

This is from the drivers side. You want some small flat blade screwdrivers.
From the front side tip mirror to one side to give you access to the slots.
See the red circles? That is where you are going to be working. One screwdriver
to lift the tab and the other to push back on the cap to move it away from the housing.

You don't want to remove the glass do to the fact that it is a major PITA to get the
drive pins back into the little motors. Also you have the heat wires for the mirror to
watch out for. Don't want to break them that is for sure.

See the connector for the signal LED? It can be
on really good and hard to get off.

This shot is of the clips that hold the amber turn lights in place.

I used some needle nose pliers to remove then and then a heat gun
to soften them up to reinstall and spread the wings back out to hold
in place

Once your ready to put the cover back on. Line the
clips up in the slots and give it a push. They should
all snap in place.

Let me know if you need any more info.
Also the covers come from Ford with the signal LED
assembly installed. It's too bad that they won't sell
the LED assembly by it's self. Expensive little beast.

EDIT : I forgot there are 4 clips you have to deal with. Do two at a time.

I've been contemplating selling mine, as the rust is growing and i know it'll just get more expensive as time goes on. I also know i'd kick myself forever if i sold it, with how much i've done to it, how many places i've gone in it, and how long ive had it.

And after i started contemplating selling, now i have a oil leak from the front cover i believe...can't win over here. Im not sure what else would leak oil, but it drips off this allen head bolt thing. After i shut it off, it leaves about a 4-5" puddle of oil in a matter of minutes. Does not appear to leak while running

it leaks enough that my entire steering gear, axle, steering stabilizers, etc..all coated in oil completely. thoughts ?

The big Allen head there is the oil pressure regulator. It has an o-ring that can go bad. The whole thing is only $25. Worth a shot. I'm replacing mine with my oil change next week.

Hmm...so you just unscrew the allen head, and replace the entire thing? Nothing else has to be taken apart?

Nope. I read that you might lose a cup or so of oil if you pull it out when it's full. Mine is due for an oil change anyways.

I think you can get just the o-ring for about $5

Me either. I hope that's all it is on mine. My driver side valve cover is leaking at the rear corner also and marking up my driveway.

I hear ya there. My truck has always leaked about a nickle sized drop of oil from the rear of the engine when shut off...i just deal with that. But, this is leaking quite a bit from the front now lol

I'd degrease it first and verify the leak. The way it's thrown around wet I'd suspect front crank seal.
But here's the regulator plug showing the oring (purple).

Miles you have to look at it this way.
Where ever there is oil it won't rust as bad.

I agree that the first thing is clean it up first for two reasons.
First to help find the leak and second so that when you work on
it you don't have to worry about much dirt getting back in
when you replace the parts.

BTW How is work going?

When I had front main seal issues it looked just as you described. It sits right behind the crankshaft pulley. I never suspected the front seal for my rear oil leak until it started dripping off the regulator plug.

Front seal replacement was $387 from Ford. Don't try any method other than Ford special tooling. Been there, had it done 3x, never again.

Seal replacement helped rear leak but I still have other contributors back there. Luckily, it doesn't drip most of the time.

Hope it's the plug for both of you.
