Hidden hitch for my 68

I took this hitch off of a 2006ish Ford Ranger. Just had to drill the holes. Early indications are that it will fit nicely under the chrome sport (contour) bumper. (have to add the "contour" so ND doesn't get upset, lol.

Thumbs up

Nice hitch, but you might consider side plates to attach the hitch to the frame. This better utilizes the strength of the frame channel web to support your load compared to attaching to the flanges as shown in your application.

Engineers explain it this way: "the web resists shear forces while the flanges resist most of the bending moment experienced by the beam. Very efficient form for carrying both bending and shear loads in the plane of the web."

Looks like a very solid hitch on an immaculate frame! Should do nicely!

2X farmallmta's comments. You might be able to use a 3" X 4" X 3/8" thick angle piece of steel to wrap it to the side of the frame.

Did you trial fit the SPORT () bumper before drilling for the hitch?

I recommend backing the bolt holes with 3/16ths plate to spread the load over a wider area.

Good to know that the ranger hitch fits. All rangers were the same so year won't matter.

I had to modify one off an 87 F250 to fit my truck. It was too wide.

I got a Class III from a Bumpside for cheap.... kinda rare IMO since most relied on a dock bumper with its hitch ball. It had a Pertronix module too!

2x.. good to know Rangers can be donors.
