I have a rattle emitting from inside my driver side door. Sounds like it's coming from behind the door handle. Anyone here know what's back there that could be causing the noise. Sounds like metal on metal clanging and most noticeable when going over rough roads/bumps. Thanks, Jerry
Thanks, I'll let you know what it turns out to be. I've got an appointment tomorrow morning. If they can't fix it, I'll probably just hit you up for the instructions and put some padding in there. You're probably right though, the cable is probably what's banging around. Thanks, Jerry
I've removed it. The only things that could be lose are....
1) The big wire harness that connects to the switches/locks/mirror controls. But it never really goes behind the door handle.
2) Speaker harness. (again not near the door handle)
3) The Boden cable that operates the door. I would guess this is it. I think it is supposed to be retained by a series of clips.
The door panel is a little tricky to remove, but not bad. Let me know if you want instructions.

I'm curious as to what type of soundproofing they used on the doors? What did you see in there?
To change the front speaker you need only remove the grill, but i'll give you the whole thing incase you want to rewire or mount crossovers or whatnot. okay here we go.
Front door:
1) Pop off the speaker grill. There is a small notch on the forward side. Slip a tape covered screwdriver in there and pop up the grill. Continue the same around until removed.
2) Remove the speaker. 4 - 5.5mm screws. Disconnect speaker wire harness. Remove black water sheild. Use pliers to remove the bottom 2 speaker-mounting spacers.
3) Open the small access panel by the door handle with the screwdriver. Remove 2 bolts behind (8mm I think)
?
4) Using a protected butter knife pop up and off the panel where the window/door controls are. Disconnect wires. Remove 10mm bolt inside.
5) Remove 2 - 6mm screws at bottom of door.
7) Firmly slide entire trim panel up and away. Note, the door cable is still attached.
8) From the backside unclip and slide through the opening, the door latch handle.
Rear Supercab Door.
1) Pull off 2 trip parts next to window. (can be done by hand, give them a good yank)
2) Remove small Access panel and 2 bolts behind as above. Also remove the door handle itself
3) Remove window controls as above. Remove 10mm Bolt.
I'm curious as to what type of soundproofing they used on the doors? What did you see in there?
The inner door panel is sealed very tightly with hot glue and a plastic sheet. On the inside of the trim panel there is maybe 1/4"-1/2" of frabric insulation
IzInBloOm - Real glad you posted the door removal procedure.. Went to dealer today to get a window glass replaced( badly scratched from factory) They did not have a clue as to how the panel came off, but i had your instructions with me, I'm sure I avoided problems and broken clips , etc. They wanted to get the BIG HAMMER OUT..oH! THE WONDERFUL fORD SERVICE. I don't think this garage even had a manual, or at least did not no were to find it..
Did you see my Post about the loose window channel?? I had a bad rattle that would go away if I pressed against the glass. On my truck there's a hex bolt between the latch & lower edge of door. A few turns of the wrench & rattle is gone.. Of course I didn't know that until after I pulled the door panel and saw the loose track..
After reading IzInBlooms instructions on door panel removal, I was able to replace my passenger door mirror. NO PROBLEMS! But when the mirror hit the glass, the glass was pitted and although I suppose I could have tried to polish it out, I was too proud of my 2004 SCAB Lariat that is still less than three months old to handle the slightest blemish to this beautiful red masterpiece. So I used the instructions today to help replace the window. A little tricky for an all thumbs ironworker, but I think I got it adjusted near perfect. Guess I,ll know the next time it rains. (Wish it would rain. 98 here in South L.A. today). And thanx to everyone else for all the little tips, tricks, and bloopers.
