Sluggish Uphill with Data Log and Chart from PID 3D
Towing up a fairly long and steep hill yesterday, she was pretty sluggish. I put the pedal to the floor but she didn't improve ;(
We recently did a bunch of work (see my build thread in my sig for details) and tightened her up in a very good way, but I was getting terrible MPG and eventually over about 800 miles she started to get lazy.
I grabbed my smartphone with TorquePro running and told it to start logging as I continued up the hill. I figured it would be a good "test" to see if the new PID 3D could help me find the problem.
In about 20 secs I found the problem. EBP is erratic. See this screen capture of the WOT chart.
I've been told before to clean and check EBP sensor and tubing but haven't gotten to it yet
I recently had a wastegate problem (sensor or whatever ) when we rebuilt my turbo and am not quite satisfied it doesn't need adjusted or whatnot.
There is also a distinct possibility that I have an air leak somewhere, haven't tested since the work. We've been on a trip for about 2 weeks.
I just realized I don't have BARO set to capture in TorquePro, but it captures Boost directly from its own calcs. I'll adjust my settings. It's nice that TP keeps the logging settings stored, so you can just grab it, tell it to start logging when you notice a problem, then tell it to stop and email the logs to yourself.
Also figured with all the jittery EBP graphs popping up on the forum lately, this could be helpful to others
Does your chart smooth the data at all or is it just connecting the samples. I'm asking because although the EBP is moving around, it seems to do it smoothly.

Here's an idea for testing the exhaust side with the same PVC cap used for the intake side. You can use the EBP sensor to see what pressure you're getting the the exhaust manifold:
Here's a new chart with EBP as a solid line, not smoothed, and I changed it to show every sample instead of every other one. It now shows 50 points instead of 30, too. I changed MPH to be a dotted line instead, which seems to make more sense
Great idea on the exhaust side to read the EBP and compare to the pressure of the air compressor! I've never seen that before
And here's one where I changed the scale of FIPW to move it down on the chart so we can see EBP better. Again, 50 points, every sample shown.
PID 3D is setup to allow you to change the scale of each column. The chart automatically changes scale both vertically and horizontally to fit whatever data you want, from 2 to 50 points at a time, from any row or section of your logged data, using a sample rate of 1,2,3, or whatever you want to show details or a wide overview.
So I'm playing with a new tool at the same time as looking to find and fix my EBP and power issue. Thought it would be interesting to share some of the details
WOT, eh? Then... you have an issue. Low boost combined with bouncy EBP looks suspiciously like a leak somewhere.
I think you're right. It seemed to get worse on the way home. Or maybe I was getting in more of a hurry, LOL.
If we don't get crazy rain today, I'm going to visually inspect it all today and see about picking up parts to make a leak detector, then try to get time to check for leaks and clean the EBP tomorrow
My max boost on this run was 18.4psi. Using 95 wheel in the turbo until I can get another upgraded WW2. Haven't heard any results from the defective threads in the 4/4 billet wheel. Don't want to order again until I find out if it's an isolated problem or a batch
Here's that section of the data, starting at row 277.
