Buyer Beware!
4 months ago I made a purchase from Trixters Racing in Dallas, Tx. It is a custom supercharger kit for the 4.2L (hush, its a good little engine!!). It is manufactured for Trixters by a company called Need for Speed in Clearwater, Fl.
I had several problems with the manufacturer from the get go. My kit was to be here 5 JAN 04. I didnt even receive a phone call from them letting me know it would be late. I had to call them several times before I got notice that it had not been shipped. It arrived nearly a 2 weeks late. Normally not a problem, but it made it a 4 month way, for something that takes 6-8 weeks to be shipped.
Well, the kit arrives and I am almost instantly disappointed. As I start to unload the box *even though it was packaged well* I notice there is no hardware so far. All the hardware *approx. 40 pieces of washers, spacers, nuts, bolts, and brass fittings* were spereated into 2 ziploc baggies. Inside those bags, they were not seperated or labeled what component they were associated with. It took me quite a while to sort every thing out.
At this point, I would like to mention that Trixters had no role in packaging whatsoever.
To make a long story short, the install took nearly 20 hours, and 63 man hours. Most of that hardware sent was never needed, or mentioned in their install manual. To make things worse, I had to go to the hardware store 3 or 4 times to buy nuts and bolts that actually fit. I still have 5 or 6 brass fittings left over. The hardware issue alone is unsat IMHO.
To compound everything worse, the belt was slipping at Boost! NFS (Need for Speed) was made aware of the situation, by Trixters racing. Trixters, who by the way had great customer service, and even replaced a faulty vortech brass fitting, has helped me quite a bit. I reccomend this company to anyone. So NFS took 2 days to respond.
I will admit that I was complaining about my satisfaction with the kit. I also stated some cost I have incurred, some of which were for myself (tools and a tap to be specific) in the email to Trixters. It was forwarded to NFS. I basically received a "Its not my problem youre an idiot. You must be stupid to not figure the install out" kind of email. I am very disappointed.
In a nut shell, I strong suggest no one EVER buy from Need for Speed in clearwater, FL. Ever! In my experiance, he has cut corners on all ends, and in the end, does not care about his customers. he in fact stated that this was specifically not his problem due to the fact that he is only the manufacture, not the seller. So let me ask you this. If you bought an Acme DVD player from Ciircuit City, and it would not load the disc, woudl you call the manufacture, or the 17 yesar old kid that sold it to you?
Thanks, I am done ranting now. I appreciate any and all forwarding this. If anyone wants more detail, or to ask some questions, my email is available in my profile. Thanks again guys, and beware of Need for GREED!!!!!!
Garrett
While these changes were implemented, in working with Garrett on the install, we found much work is needed to get the kit installed correctly. Additional parts are also needed based on the year you own. Based on the response we received from Need-4-Speed, they are unwilling to make further modifications. This means the kit is labor and cost exhaustive, and it not suited for a DIY install. In addition tapping the oiling system is difficult, prone to leaks, and will definitely void 3/36 and any powertrain warranties offered.
I am not posting details (Garrett will give you details when requested), but I will say we no longer offer the kit or support it's installation.
